Precise positioning based on radio signals has increasingly step from a tech-nological want to an actual need.With the increasing pervasive nature of tech-nology and services,several needs has emerged:autonomous driving,UAV,ro-botics,businesses,emergency services etc.The trend continuous to increase as we move toward 5G and beyond networks.From the introduction of cellular networks,several methods of positioning systems have been developed:CID,E-CID,OTDOA,UTDOA.Certain key con-cepts are explored positioning in wireless environment,radio access and air in-terface parameters.A more extensive study on OTDOA as its been used com-monly.Also exploring in details positioning in LTE architecture and moving to positioning in 5 G network.Even though these methods provide acceptable results,for certain critical services,it isn't enough.Hence the need to explore better means for positioning.The main work done in this paper is using the method of time difference of arrival and least squares to estimate the position of an entity.Taking into consid-eration the release standards in 3 GPP to show that entities can be precisely lo-cated.Using least squares to perform a better approximation of position.
