With the rapid development of radio technology in the field of communications, the work of radio spectrum management has become more complicated. In order to manage radio resources more efficiently and avoid the interference of unknown signal sources to the existing electromagnetic environment,it is one of the hotspots of electromagnetic spectrum research to locate and track signals in time according to spectrum monitoring data. However,in some cases, the relevant data obtained by the spectrum monitoring system contains less information, which makes the spectrum monitoring system unable to directly use positioning technologies such as TDOA(Time Difference of Arrival),AOA(Angle of Arrival),and RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication). In this paper, based on the application of RSSI in the positioning technology of spectrum monitoring system,a positioning algorithm based on Received Signal Strength Indication Difference(RSSID)is proposed.Firstly, the research background and application scenarios of radiation source localization technology are introduced, and the positioning technology problems still existing in the spectrum monitoring system are introduced. Then, based on the concept of radio wave propagation, the principles of three kinds of positioning techniques:time difference of arrival(TDOA),angle of arrival(AOA)and signal strength indication(RSSI)are introduced in detail.Secondly, the principle of RSSI ranging is introduced, and a method for dynamically estimating the signal attenuation model parameters suitable for the propagation environment using RSSI real-time data is verified by experiments. The paper further proposes a Median-Kalman filter to smooth the RSSI signal and compare it with median filtering and Kalman filtering. Finally, based on the above theoretical basis, the RSSID positioning method is proposed. The basic principle of RSSID is to convert the RSSID between two monitoring stations into the ratio of the distance between the signal source and the two monitoring stations, and then construct the positioning equation matrix according to the ratio of distances, the location of the unknown source can be obtained by least squares. In addition, the Kalman filter is selected as the MATLAB simulation experiment to smooth the RSSI signal.
