As an important part of the natural world,plants are closely related to human's production and life,laying the material foundation for human's survival and development.With the popularity of the computer and the development of graphics technology,especially the rise of virtual reality technology,more and more virtual reality technologies are used in people's lives(such as: science fiction films,interactive games,virtual teaching,etc.),and virtual plants are an indispensable part of the environment.Apart from this,plant modeling technology is also one of the hot issues in graphics research.Due to the variety of plants,various shapes,serious occlusion,and complex three-dimensional structures,plant modeling techniques are extremely challenging.Based on the in-depth study of existing plant modeling methods,this thesis proposes a sketch-based plant modeling method,and designs and implements a prototype system that combines 2D image sketch-based plant modeling and 3D sketch-based plant modeling method.The main work of this article is as follows:(1)An image sketch-based plant modeling method is proposed.Most of the existing plant modeling systems use a large number of parameter settings to generate plant models,requiring users to understand various plant parameters and have a strong professionalism.In this thesis,according to the image sketch-based modeling method,the user can draw the main trunk of the target plant based on the original image,and convert the main characteristics of the trunk to three-dimensional space.The system generates other branches of the plant based on the empirical parameters and completes the entire plant skeleton is constructed,and the operation is simple and flexible,which reduces the use standards and learning costs of the software.(2)A new method of 3D sketch-based plant modeling is proposed.This method is complementary to the image sketch-based system.2D branches will appear some angle distortion in the three-dimensional reconstruction.Therefore,this thesis proposes a 3D sketch-based plant modeling method,where the user can directly provide the main characteristics of the plant in 3D space.The system generates other branches according to the relevant parameters.Then the 3D sketched-based branches generate a mesh model by a surface reconstruction technique,and a real-life processing technique such as texture and light is used to generate the entire plant model.(3)Combining with C++,OpenGL,Qt,and GUI programming techniques,a prototype system was implemented based on modularity.The system integrates 2D and 3D sketch-based technology,which is based on hand-drawn plant line skeletons and combines with realistic processing technology to generate a more natural three-dimensional plant model.In addition,it can meet the different needs of users in reality and quickly generate personalized plant elements rich in plant models.
