As the extension and development of traditional wireless sensor network,wireless multimedia sensor network has been invested heavily environmental and military monitoring,intelligent furniture and other practical areas of application.The acquisition of media information from sensor nodes is crucial for a variety of updated applications,of which images are the most common and popular way of presenting information.However,the processing capability and the ability of nodes to store data is limited in WMSNs.Meanwhile,the energy consumption of nodes is also severely limited.Therefore,how to maintain a high compression ratio based on reducing energy consumption is a problem that needs to be solved urgently.In combination of the characteristic of the network architecture of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks,a distributed multi-node cooperative network model based on NMF is designed by using the concept of in-network processing to improve their energy,memory and computional power.To balance the energy consumption of the network,according to roles division,camera nodes gather images and send blocking images to the common nodes in cluster.Common nodes compress the partioned images by using a distributed image compression algorithm based on non-negative matrix factorization(NMF)called Scheme-NMF and send the compressed data to the cluster head node.Then,the cluster head node sends the compressed image data to the station.Simulation results demonstrate that,compared with previous algorithms like JPEG2000,the proposed Scheme-NMF algorithm can reduce energy consumption and maintain high quality of restored images at the same time,and achieves higher peak signal to noise ratio without decreasing compression ratio.Since NMF is used to compress grayscale images,multilayer non-negative matrix factorization is introduced into WMSNs to compress color image.A color image compression algorithm based on topology improved called Scheme-MNMF is proposed.Simulation results demonstrate that,Scheme-MNMF can effectively balance the energy consumption of network and largely extend the network lifecycle.In addition,the proposed Scheme-MNMF algorithm achieves high peak signal without decreasing compression ratio when compress color image.
