A Bibliometric Study On The Definition And Identify Indicators Of Forward-looking Research Fronts

Under the background of knowledge society,the fronts of high technology has become an important form of comprehensive national strength.In the face of the constantly growing and changing trend of high-tech fronts,our country should identify the most forward-looking research fronts and strategically deploy limited resources.But at present,there is no accepted research fronts concept in academia and the Identify indicators does not form a unified system.After identifying the research fronts,how to classify them has not attracted enough attention.Therefore,the ultimate goal of this paper is to select the best model for identifying forward-looking research fronts.The following study are conducted in this article.First,we review previous studies on the research fronts,define the concepts of research fronts and forward-looking research fronts and build Identify indicators.The second is to build and compare the models of research fronts theory,we also do empirical analysis and comparison of the models to select the best model for identifying research fronts.Finally,we draw the strategic diagram separately for these models,compare the forward-looking research fronts contents and indicators of them.Combined with the experts in this field,we screen out the best model to identify forward-looking research fronts.At last,we select synthetic biology as research area and use the best research fronts model to identify forward-looking research fronts in the field.Combine models comparison results and models empirical comparison results,we find Garfield(1994),Persson(1994)& Chen(2005)are the best models for identifying the research fronts.The strategic diagram of these models were drawn to identify 19 and 26 research fronts,3 and 6 forward-looking research fronts,respectively.Through the comparison of the same research fronts,different research fronts comparison,forward-looking research fronts index comparison,combined with the scientometrics expert judgment,finally come to the conclusion,the Persson(1994)& Chen(2005)model is the best model to identify forward-looking research fronts.
