As one of the “four major newspapers and periodicals” of the Republic of China,Social Welfare Tientsin has never advertised its identity as a liberal newspaper,but it did so from the “May Fourth Movement” to justice,to advocating constitutionalism,and to advocating "The third way",Social Welfare Tientsin with a strong liberalism color.Especially in the 1930 s,liberal intellectuals such as Luo Longji,Liang Shiqiu,and Q ian Duansheng,all came together in Social Welfare Tientsin to make the newspaper a liberal newspaper.In the 1930 s,the liberalism ideology in Social Welfare Tientsin 's editorials was extensive.It mainly included political liberalism that promoted the rule of law,democracy,and constitutional government,and the “neo-liberal” economic ideology that advocated the development of a socialist economy.They firmly believe in the theory of social evolution based on the theory of inspiring in the social historical perspective,as well as in the practice of operation and news in the paper to spread liberal ideas and principles.Among them,because of the national conditions of internal and diplomatic difficulties,the political liberalism thought of the discussion and propaganda occupy half of the thought.The liberalists around Social Welfare Tientsin are the early theories of the enlightenment from the late Qing dynasty and Liang Q ichao and others on the liberal thought.During the May 4th New Culture Movement and the 1920 s,or studying abroad,or actively participating in the domestic liberal movement,the liberal thought became more and more mature;In the 1930 s,it absorbed the thoughts of nationalism,socialism,and nationalism,and formed liberalism with Chinese characteristics at that time,showing its liberal ideals and contradictions in the nation in peril and panic,and the effort to reconcile the contradictions.
