Design And Implementation Of A Wi-Fi AP Positioning Application For The Android Platform

With the rapid development and popularity of mobile Internet,Wi-Fi infrastructures including Wi-Fi access points(APs)and various Wi-Fi-enabled mobile devices are ubiquitous.Because AP's position plays an important role in wireless network planning,illegal wireless AP detection,and Wi-Fi-based positioning and navigation,research and applications of AP positioning has attracted much attention.Although a variety of AP positioning algorithms have been proposed,they have only been tested and verified in experimental environments.Therefore,according to the existing AP positioning algorithm based on the Log-normal Distance Path Loss(LDPL)model and the least squares method as well as the embedded GPS function module of smartphones,this thesis designs and implements a mobile app that supports real-time AP positioning for the Android platform,called AP-loc.The specific work in this thesis is summarized as follows:Firstly,using the Wi-Fi and GPS functional modules of smartphones,real-time information including AP's received signal strength(RSS)and user's location is acquired,then AP's location is calculated by the AP positioning algorithm based on the LDPL model and the least squares method.Secondly,in light of the basic flow of software development,AP-Loc is developed for the Android platform through requirements analysis,overall design and detailed design and etc.Finally,unit tests of each functional module of AP-Loc are performed to verify the correctness of each function.At the same time,the AP positioning algorithm testing experiments on different scenes are designed to verify the feasibility.In summary,AP-Loc designed and implemented in this paper satisfies the design requirements and achieves the advantages of friendly interface,simple operation,complete functions,real-time positioning.Moreover,AP-Loc can assist researchers in e.g.algorithm testing.
