Query Reformulation Of Library OPAC In A Multi Device Environment

In a multi device environment,users will choose different devices when searching.When the search task is complex,users may search transferring from one device to another one.Users' search behaviors on different devices show different characteristics,indicating that devices and retrieval systems have impacts on user search behavior.This study explores the query reformation behavior of OPAC search in multi device environment,which is conducive to providing some inspirations and suggestions for OPAC intelligent search.This research collects large scale transaction log data on mobile phone,tablet computer and desktop.Through statistical analysis,the author compares the differences of access points,query reformulation strategies and patterns on different devices,analyzes the characteristics of cross device search query reformulation patterns,and analyzes and summarizes the reasons for differences on different devices.It is found that the proportion of query reformulation tactics on different devices is different;the number and type of query reformulation patterns on desktop are far higher than that of the mobile phone and the tablet computer;the proportion of all kinds of query reformulation patterns on the desktop is relatively uniform,and the proportion of reformulation patterns on mobile phone is concentrated on several prominent reformulation patterns;The average times of desktop reformulation is larger than that of mobile phone and tablet computer;As the times of query reformulation increases,the complexity of query reformulation on different devices is approaching;It is very typical for users to transfer from the desktop to the mobile end.and different query reformulation types show the different time length of the cross device.Based on the characteristics of query reformulation of OPAC on multi devices,this study puts forward some suggestions for OPAC intelligent search.OPAC on mobile terminal can optimize the interface,set the page label,improve the input method to provide the user with a variety of input methods;OPAC on the desktop terminal can provide more prompt content in the interface;the OPAC system can automatically prompt the spelling errors and give more positive items according to the word library;Set the number,location and arrangement of the access points according to the different devices,take the probability and search success rate into account;the OPAC system can retain the original query,provide the hidden zero symbol "X" when users reselect the access point and return to the main page;the OPAC can provide suggestion options to users to direct users' selection according to the first few letters or words entered by the user and search history of most users in the system;study query reformulation patterns,predict query transfer,and automatically recommend queries for users.
