The Research On Interactive Game Of Discourse Power Between The Media And The Public From The Perspective Of Field Theory

Discourse power is a basic right for the public to participate in social affairs.With the development of network technology and social media,the public discourse power has been greatly enhanced.The interaction between the public and the media has transformed the way to produce and spread information.This research has described how the media and the public interacted with each other from the perspective of the Field Theory by applying the method of Game Theory.It aims to make the bilateral game relationship clear and innovate the way to study discourse power in the new media era.According to Bourdieu's Field Theory,the discourse power of the media and the public is subject to their respective positions when they're engaged in the interactive game within the micro field,which is influenced by their total capital and behavioral habitus.This study takes “the bullied mother murder case” in the micro field from March 23,2017 to June 30,2017 as an example to show the interactive game between the media and the public discourse power in this event.First,the game rules,the actors' capital,habitus and illusion in the event are analyzed one by one based on the Field Theory.The structuralist formula shows that the actors' discourse practice is the result of the field,the actors' capital and habitus.Then,the progress of the discussion is divided into two stages with the intervention of government departments as the dividing line.The game gradually changes from a non-cooperative game to a cooperative game between the media and the public,and the bilateral discourse tends to be rational.By analyzing the content of discourse texts,the amounts of forwarding and fans of influential actors,we found that the media is in a stronger position with more external attentions,while the public' discourse is still in an ineffective state,with little influence on discourse.Finally,it found that the media and the public have the characteristics of setting the agenda,rational dialogue,and achieving a win-win situation.However,there is also the problem of information asymmetry and externalities,affecting the bilateral discourse expressions and the sum of social benefits.This study puts forward three constructive suggestions focuses on the Field Theory to address these issues.Firstly,actors should use their own capital advantagesto choose the best strategies,enrich their discourse and broaden the scope of capital exchange when they participate in activities,in order to enhance their discourse power.Secondly,the two sides of the game should abandon the bad habitus of producing and expressing.The media should discover the hidden causes behind the event and objectively report the truth of the incident while public should identify the information on the Internet and speak rationally to avoid spreading false information.Meanwhile,the government departments must also grasp the favorable timing of the game,restore the truth in time and properly handle public opinion.Thirdly,both sides of the interaction must strictly follow the game rules of the field.The media should adhere to the truthful and objective principles of news and correctly handle the relationship between social and economic benefits.The public should improve their media literacy,use media resources correctly and rationally pursue their own interests while taking into account the social benefits.
