Study On Topic Interactions In Interdisciplinary Domain,Take Cell,Biology Field As An Example

Interdisciplinary research is the current and future trend in every research field.Therefore,studying on how disciplinaries affects topic evolution of host disciplinary,and discussing the interaction patterns among disciplinaries,would be of great essential to provide guidance to other research fields.In this study,we tried to base on the share of keywords to construct paper networks.And with community detection algorithm,Louvain,paper networks that show different stage of Cell,Biology field were clustered into several communities.Topic evolution was detected by comparing result of previous and current time stage.Inheriting,dying,and convergence were observed in the topic evolution process.Result shows that cell,biology has three unique topic groups that have identical characteristic of particular life stage of community,including TGI that had several convergence and splitting behaviors;TG2 that had typical convergence behaviors;TG3 that have typical splitting behaviors.Further analysis on interaction of topic and disciplinaries found that topics and disciplinaries changes have high correlation in summation,yet in specific topic group which has steady growth,this relationship is missing,indicating the steady growing topic become less influential by other disciplinaries.On micro-level,as cell,biology develops,the number of outsider words from other disciplinaries was more than that of new born words in the host disciplinaries.Most of the outside words were level 3-6 concepts,having high specialty,and mainly about Chemicals and Drugs,and Diseases.Topic essential words,emerging words and words(ie)with aforementioned two characteristics were selected to analysis how outside words interact with concepts of Cell,Biology.Specifically,72%of total interaction include at less one type of those special words.Outside words preferred to connect to topic essential words most,and following by ie word and emerging words.Most of the topic essential words and ie words are level 3-4 concepts,having high specialty and mainly about Phenomena and Processes,and Chemicals and Drugs,while emerging words don't have apparent characteristics from these three perspectives.Further researches can be focused on improving the construction of paper networks,expanding dataset,and further discovering words' interaction patterns.
