Online discussion is an important way of information exchange and knowledge sharing,and an important form to support interactive and collaborative process in online learning.However,in practice,students are not active in online discussion,their discussion quality is low.Most discussions are superficial and simple information exchange,without in-depth discussion of knowledge.Role design is an important strategy to promote collaborative learning.Therefore,this study based on the existing research,having students play roles has a positive impact on supporting students' cooperative learning.on the one hand,it can make students clearly understand their own tasks,but on the other hand,it can stimulate learner's self-consciousness and sense of responsibility.Designing role design based online discussion activities can promote learners' knowledge building,facilitate students' deep participation,and provide strategies and methods to help students actively participate in online discussions,and thus can guide students to really and effectively participate.The core of this study is the effect of role design on knowledge building in online discussion,which is mainly focused on the following two questions:(1)Does role design have an effect on Learner's knowledge building in online discussion?(2)How does the level of detail of the role script scaffolding provided in the online discussion affect the learner's knowledge building?Based on the above research problems,this paper carries out the research from three aspects:(1)According to the literature review,combining the existing role classification framework and the knowledge building principle,the role types of online discussion are concluded and designed,this study designed five roles: Presenter,supporter,Questioner,rebutter and summarizer.(2)Three different role script scaffoldings were designed,they are "the role responsibility scripts" scaffolding,"the role sample script " scaffolding,and "the procedural script" scaffolding.(3)Based on the teaching content of "application of information-based Teaching Environment",taking knowledge building as the starting point,referring to the principles of knowledge building theory,combining the interactive characteristics of online discussion environment,designing online discussion activities,and using Moodle platform,implement three discussion sessions based on role design.(4)At the end of the teaching practice,we use the relevant coding scheme to analyze the real situation of the students' participation in the discussion,and discuss the learners' knowledge building,to understand the influence of role design on the online discussion on the knowledge building.Based on the above research,the conclusions are as follows:(1)Role design can promote learners' knowledge building level in online discussion.There is a significant difference between the level of knowledge building and the initial level of the three online discussions based on role design.(2)In online discussion activities based on role design,the proportion of high-level knowledge-building is different with the provision of scaffolding with different levels of detail,and the more detailed the scaffolding,the higher the proportion of high-level knowledge-building is.Through further analysis of the data,the differences of the learners' knowledge building level in online discussion were obtained when three different detailed role scripts were provided: In the online discussion,the knowledge building level of the discussion activity based on "procedural script" bracket is different from that based on "role example script" bracket The knowledge building level of discussion activity based on "procedural script" is different from that based on "role responsibility script".However,there is no difference in the level of knowledge building between the discussion activities based on "role sample script" and the discussion activities based on "role responsibility script".(3)From the researcher's practice,it gives the concrete suggestions from four aspects: the setting of online discussion,the assignment scheme of role design,the learner and the role design.
