The Headmaster Group Of Private Middle Schools In The Early Period Of Nanjing National Government

Based on the information of the headmaster group of private middle schools in the book the Name and Distribution of Nationalist Public and Private Secondary Schools(1930),this paper,with reference to other historical materials,investigates the headmaster group of private middle schools in the early period of Nanjing National Government by methods of historical documents,type analysis and quantitative investigation,and analyzes the characteristics of distribution of employment place,educational background,age,tenure,gender of the group and its educational connotation.In terms of the employment place and native place's distribution,the number of headmasters in the coastal areas with developed industrial and commercial economy is significantly higher than that in other areas,especially in the remote areas,reflecting the supporting role of industrial and commercial economy in the formation of headmaster groups and the development of private middle schools.As far as the distribution of educational background is concerned,the overseas students,the local Normal students and the scholars in the late Qing Dynasty played different roles in the introduction and localization of modern educational concepts,which forms a rich appearance of the school-running thought and practice of private middle schools.In the investigation of the headmasters of different ages,different tenure and female headmasters of private middle schools,this paper particularly discusses the soul role of a group of long-term headmasters in the development of famous private middle schools in the Republic of China and the development of corresponding girl's private middle schools.The conclusion part sums up the group appearance and individual running style of the headmasters of the private middle schools in the early period of Nanjing National Government from the aspects of the social economic and cultural development level,the introduction and practice of modern educational concepts,and the spiritual leading role of the headmasters.
