With the rapid development of primary and secondary education,more and more people begin to pay attention to mathematical modeling.The Ministry of education has promulgated the mathematics curriculum standard of general high school(2017Edition)(hereinafter referred to as the new curriculum standard(2017)),which regards mathematics modeling as one of the six core qualities of mathematics and plays an important role in developing students' quality education and improving students' key abilities.This paper makes a case study on the mathematics modeling ability of high school students.In this paper,the domestic and foreign literature on mathematical modeling is studied and analyzed.According to the division of mathematical modeling literacy level in the new curriculum standard(2017),a questionnaire about senior high school students' understanding and learning situation of mathematical modeling is compiled,and the investigation on senior high school students in HD No.1 middle school is carried out.It is concluded that senior high school students have very low understanding,low interest and low knowledge of mathematical modeling.Besides,Mathematical modeling is so difficult that students' participation is lower.Eventually,the appeal of learning mathematical modeling is stronger,and it plays a role in learning other subjects.After many discussions with front-line teachers,a test paper of mathematical modeling literacy level of senior high school students was compiled to investigate the level of mathematical modeling ability of senior high school students.The subjects of the test paper are three men,three women and six students in the practical class.Based on the test results of the case and the daily conversation,the relevant conclusions of the level of mathematical modeling ability among the case students are obtained:(1)The level of modeling ability of boys is slightly higher than that of girls;(2)The students with high modeling level are better than the students with low modeling level;(3)The students with higher modeling level have more cognition and stronger interest in mathematical modeling;(4)The students with higher modelinglevel have better understanding of modeling problems in mathematical textbooks;(5)The students with higher modeling level have higher participation in the teaching process;(6)The students with higher modeling level have better performance in usual exercises;(7)The students with higher modeling level think the more important it is.Based on the above research results,the following strategies are proposed to improve the mathematical modeling ability of senior high school students:(1)Attach importance to mathematical modeling and formulate relevant mechanisms;(2)Set up a training class for teachers in mathematical modeling to increase the publicity of mathematical modeling;(3)Establish a database to provide classic modeling cases;(4)Establish a modeling cooperation group to carry out modeling research activities;(5)Compile meeting research report and present the modeling results;(6)Students make mutual evaluation through network and teachers make comments and summary.This study is a case study of mathematical modeling for senior high school students,which can be used for reference to improve the level of mathematical modeling of students,and hope to be helpful to front-line teachers and researchers.
