| Learning style is the method and form of acquiring knowledge from reading,listening and speaking.Whether the learning style of students is suitable for the requirements of current education and teaching reform and development,in a sense,it is an important aspect to measure the success or failure of PE classroom education and teaching reform and whether quality education can be further promotedMethods: This study focused on the learning styles and characteristics of Yangpu District(Shanghai)primary school physical education classes.Methods of literature review,survey questionnaire,field observation,oral interview,statistical analyses,and comparative research were used to study the presence of common issues,including the chronological sequencing of teaching and learning,the contents of teaching materials,levels of students' physical and mental development,students' active learning initiative,degrees of class participation,educators' teaching methods,etc.Analyses of the physical education classes have revealed the prevailing characteristics of students' learning styles,as well as the teachers' use of various teaching methods.These provide theoretical references for policy-makers to consider when designing future reforms for primary school physical education curricula,and also provide practical guidance for physical education teachers' planning of relevant classroom teaching strategies.conclusions:⑴There exist characteristic sequences of teaching and learning: the primary school PE classes usually adhered to the method of teaching before learning,while the method of teaching after learning or teaching while learning,which can reflect students' learning initiative,was not observed in wide use,however,the learning styles of students in different grades were revealed to be significantly different.⑵There exist characteristics of teaching materials: traditional teaching methods of teaching before learning are usually aimed at the students with tendencies for independent acquisition and imitation acquisition,but for the more difficult or boring contents,teaching materials are often designed to be game-based,especially for situational learning.⑶There exist characteristic cognitive levels: junior grade students report their favorite learning styles to be game-based and situational,rich in a wide variety of differing activities,while the more senior grade primary school students reported their favorite learning style to be more focused,with less variety of activities,and based on exploratory group work,but as a whole,gamification was reported to be the preferred learning style of primary school students.⑷There exist characteristics of activity degree: passive learning was found to be the most dominant in primary school physical education classes,and although use of autonomous learning,inquiry learning,and experiential learning did mobilize students' learning initiative,such piqued interested were short-lived,as students did not maintain a state of active learning.⑸ There exist characteristics of students' participation: the physical education classes were dominated by rote memorization,and students did not have much opportunity for independent activities or independent learning,but the amount of activities within the lesson plans that promote students' active participation is gradually increasing.⑹There exist characteristics of teacher methods: use of multimedia and other audio-visual learning methods are more becoming more frequent in primary school PE classes,and the use of self-made teaching props is also increasing in frequency,and this reflects a trend of teachers consciously using different teaching methods to change the way students learn. |
