In recent years,with the process of globalization,IB(International Baccalaureate)courses have become a hot topic.These courses are mainly focused on students aged 3-19 and devoted to cultivating students into high-quality talents with international vision.By March 2020,the official website of the International Baccalaureate Organization shows that there are about 1842 IB primary schools in the world.At the same time,with the development of cooperation and exchanges between China and the United States as well as the related supporting policies of these two countries,more and more primary schools in the United States begin to offer Chinese teaching courses.Since Chinese teaching courses first entered American primary school in 1990 s,FLES(Foreign Language in the Elementary School)Chinese teaching has gradually entered people's vision.Under this background,the study of the combination of IB schools and FLES in Chinese teaching is not only of practical and theoretical significance to overseas children's Chinese teaching research,but also of great reference value to other schools in the United States.The author has the honor to do practice teaching in WIA(Wesley International Academy)through Confucius Institute in the United States.WIA is a primary school and an IB school certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization,in which Chinese language is a compulsory course with FLES teaching mode.This provides a platform for the investigation and analysis of the topic.This paper takes the Chinese teaching of WIA school as an example.Through the methods of questionnaire,interview and classroom observation,this paper analyzes the FLES Chinese teaching of IB primary school in the United States,points out the existing problems in this field and puts forward relevant suggestions.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the origin of the research,the significance of the topic,the related research review and research methods.The second chapter analyzes the general situation of FLES Chinese teaching in WIA school.Firstly,it introduces the basic situation and teaching philosophy of WIA school,and then introduces the FLES Chinese course situation of WIA school fromthe aspects of course philosophy,objective and arrangement.The third chapter investigates the Chinese teachers,students,teaching content and language test through the methods of questionnaire,classroom observation and interview.In terms of Chinese teachers,it includes the professional education background and the work content of the teachers;in terms of students,it includes the ethnic origin of students and their Chinese learning states;in terms of teaching content,it includes Chinese syllabus and teaching materials;in terms of language test,it includes benchmark test and YCT(Youth Chinese Test)level test.The fourth chapter discusses the problems of Chinese teaching in the school from the aspects of teachers,students,teaching content and language test,and puts forward enlightenment to the FLES Chinese teaching in the United States.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the content and points out the shortcomings of this paper.
