ObjectiveThis study adopted the investigation of university students' diet-related behavior, discusses the relationship between university students' diet behavior and body mass index, and provides a theoretical basis for taking scientific nutrition education measures.MethodsUsing the method of questionnaire survey on 2000 university students from different profession were selected by random cluster sampling. The diet structure, the eating habits and the beverage habits of university students were investigated by questionnaire.Chi-square test was used to compare the differences of dietary behavior among different gender and profession university students.Logistic regression was used to analyze the factors effect the body mass index of university students in diet. Results 1.The body mass indexOverweight was 149(8.1%),obesity was 31(1.7%),low body mass was 319(17.2%)and normal body quality mass was 1354(73.1%)among 1853 university students. There were significant gender difference in overweight and low body mass, and girls were higher than boys(p<0.05).2.The diet structureThere was a significant difference between boys and girls dietary structure(p<0.05).Liberal arts and science were significant difference on choice of sweetmeats, deep fry and meat products(p<0.05).Overweight and obesity were significantly associated with frequent choice of deep fry and high-fat foods(p<0.05).3.The eating habitsThere was a significant difference between boys and girls eating habits(p<0.05).There is a significant difference in the choice of food, appetite, and satiety by liberal arts and science and science.Liberal arts and science were significant difference on choice of engorgement, appetite and saturation of food(p<0.05).Overweight and obesity were significantly associated with frequent choice of replace staple food with snacks(p<0.05).Low body mass is negatively correlated with frequent choice of satiety, meal addition and oily meat food(p<0.05).4.The beverage habitsThere was a significant difference between boys and girls beverage habits(p<0.05).Liberal arts and science were significant difference on choice of beverage type and beverage quantity(p<0.05).Overweight was significantly associated with frequent choice of beverage type and beverage quantity(p<0.05).5.Dietary behavior factors effect body mass indexDaily edible oil intake of more than 25g(OR=3.128)and eating time below 5min(OR=3.131)were the risk factors of overweight in university students.1-2d/ week or 3-4d/ week eating meat(OR=0.095 and 0.175),1-2d/ week eating high fat food(OR=0.355)and drinking water beverage(OR=0.426)were the protective factors of overweight in university students.1-2 d/ week high-fat food(OR=0.116)was a protective factor for university students' obesity.1-2d/ week or 3-4d/ week eating high-fat food(OR=0.498 and 0.414),eating time 6-15min(OR=0.653)were the protective factor of low body mass of university students.ConclusionThe university students' body mass index is closely related to the dietary behavior in daily life.Overweight and obesity are highly correlated with deep fry,high-fat foods and replace staple food with snacks. There are differences in dietary behavior among university students of different gender and profession.Excessive oil intake and short eating time may be the risk factors of overweight and obesity in university students, while a small amount of meat,high-fat food intake and drinking water drinks may be protective factors for overweight and obesity.Moderate consumption of high-fat food and moderate meal time may be protective factors of low body mass of university students.
