Tai Chi is one of many types of martial arts.It is popular among the public, for its smooth and lasting momentum, relaxing and spiritually intelligent verve,as well as exercise methods that can be received by all ages. And because of its value in attack, defense, fitness, and health,it is widely respected abroad. However, recent studies have shown that the internationalization of martial arts is not ideal.International students in China are another special group for Tai Chi's international promotion. The research on their Tai Chi participation will help improve the teaching and communication effects of Tai Chi in this group;strengthen the exchange and interaction between different languages and sports cultures, and also clarify the significance of international students' humanistic sentiments towards China. However,in the meantime China trying its best to explore and implement the promotion of martial arts culture in foreign countries,it ignores this special group that came to China to learn martial arts, even facing a increasing number of international students staying in China. As a result, the theory of martial arts teaching to foreign students in universities has been lagging behind the practice seriously. What's more,it is necessary to address questions like whether the traditional Chinese physical education teaching mode meets the needs of foreign students for practicing Tai Chi,and whether the teaching effect expectations are similar to or consistent with foreign students'.Hence, this study employs the three-level coding method based on grounded theory in qualitative research, along with bibliographic method, interviewing method, focus group research methods, and applied cardinal principles of Chi,combing communications, sociology and pedagogy,to discuss the Tai Chi experience of international students inmultiple dimensions. It includes the analysis of their original motivations, the actual experience in participation, and the reflections after the participation.Based on the obstacles encountered by international students during the participation process, suggestions or measures to improve the quality of international student participation experience are put forward. The research believes that: 1)The international students' Taijiquan participation experience is mainly reflected in the macro teaching and learning experience, the micro Chinese sports experience, and the extended communication and interaction experience. They are closely connected and interact.2)Participation and experience are affected by the local students' cultural background(language, sports cultural thoughts),practice time, and boxing skills.3)Taijiquan participation behaviors of foreign students bring experience benefits to foreign students in terms of new realization, personal norms of ideological behavior, and spiritual pursuit of harmony.
