Imagination is the indispensable ability in the process of personal growth as well as the core and basis for the formation of innovation thinking and creative inclination for individuals.The primary school stage is an important period for the development of children's imagination.Scientifically and rationally training and cultivating students' imagination is the inherent requirement for the development of students' innovation capacity and thinking.Meanwhile,it is also the necessary requirement of building an innovation-oriented nation.Compulsory Education Chinese Curriculum Standard(2011version)clearly points out that cultivating children's imagination is one of the important missions of Chinese teaching.The ancient poems selected by the MOE-compiled Chinese textbooks for the middle section of primary school are characterized by concise language,closeness to children's life in content,and profound artistic conception and are extremely visually attractive as an important literary form to development students' imagination.However,the ancient poetry classroom teaching in the primary school tends to be module-based and lacks attention on student imagination.How to rationally cultivate students' imagination in the teaching of ancient poems is an issue that is worth studying.This research takes ancient poems selected in the MOE-compiled Chinese textbooks for the middle section of primary school as the text materials,and mainly adopts literature review,text analysis,questionnaire survey,interview,and case study methods for research.In the theoretical part,the thesis sorts out and analyzes relevant literature,clarifies the research status and development evolution for imagination cultivation,imagination cultivation of students in Chinese teaching,and imaginationcultivation of students in the teaching of ancient poems,and nails down the research problems and values,hence offering the theoretical basis for subsequent research.Based on the outcome of previous scholars,the thesis illustrates the connotations of cultivating students' imagination in the teaching of ancient poems and discusses the condition for imagination cultivation from the two aspects of imagination subjectivity and external educational support.Through sorting out the teaching requirement for ancient poems in the curriculum,the thesis analyzes the presentation of text-selection system,learning-assistance system,and assignment system of ancient poem textbooks and characteristics of students' imagination development and clarifies the feasibility for the cultivation of students' imagination in the teaching of ancient poems.Based on this,cultivating students' imagination in the teaching of ancient poems plays the important role of prompting students to deeply study ancient poems,cultivate students' core Chinese competencies and nurture the spiritual world of students.Next,through the results of questionnaire survey and interviews,the thesis presents the teaching status from the two stages of teaching implementation preparation and teaching implementation.Through analysis,it can be found that the students' own imagination motivation and representation reserve are inadequate,and teachers fail to put in place the cultivation of imagination in the process of teaching and ignore the evaluation of student's imagination.An in-depth analysis shows that the reasons for the above problems from objective and subjective perspectives are mainly that teachers' own imagination about ancient poems needs to be improved,the teaching environment is not conducive to arousing students' imagination,teaching design contains insufficient attention on students' imagination,and the imagination evaluation mechanisms are inadequate.Finally,targeting the problems and reasons on the current status,the thesis offers improvement strategies from the perspective of teacher's teaching,which specifically includes: Teachers should consciously improve their own imagination ability about ancient poems,create a teaching environment that simulates students' imagination,optimize the teaching design of ancient poem teaching,and put in place the cultivation of students' imagination,and perfect students' imagination evaluation feedback mechanism.These strategies aim to help students develop their imagination in the process of in-depth learning of ancient poems,enhance students' interest in the learning of ancient poems,and provide frontline teachers with the essential methods for reference in organizing imagination cultivation activities in the teaching of ancient poems.This research regards Sartre's reading imagination theory,Iser's calling structure theory,and Kieran Egan's cognitive tool theory as the important theoretical support for the cultivation of students' imagination in the teaching of ancient poems.Also,the research focuses on the teaching activities for cultivating students' imagination,adopts questionnaire survey,interview and case study methods,tries to combine theories with practice,summarizes the problems and reasons for the problems in the current status,and proposes improvement strategies.However,owing to limited time and energy,the investigation is not sufficiently deep and extensive,and not adequately typical and representative.The proposition of suggestions is not closely connected with practice.These shortcomings have pointed the direction for future research.
