In the 21 st century,China entered a new era of vocational education development. In 2014,the State Council held a national working conference on vocational education, issued <the Decision on Accelerating the Development of Modern Vocational Education> and proposed to build a modern vocational education system “embodying the concept of lifelong education, with Chinese characteristics and world level” by 2020.To this end,the Ministry of Education has formulated and implemented “the Action Plan for the Innovation and Development of Higher Vocational Education”(2015-2018).It clearly pointed out that it is necessary to increase the proportion of secondary vocational school graduates recruited by vocational colleges and the proportion of vocational college graduates recruited by general undergraduate colleges appropriately.By 2018,there were 11,700 vocational schools in China, with an annual enrollment of 9.2824 million students,26.8554 million students at school.Among them, there were 1,418 vocational colleges with more than 12 million students at school. With the continuous development of higher vocational education, the number of higher vocational students is increasing, and their mental health not only affects the harmony and stability of society, but also plays an important role in the quality of talent training in colleges and their future comprehensive competitiveness. As a specific group of college students, higher vocational students have some characteristics that are different from those of ordinary college students. They generally have poor cultural knowledge base, weak social competitiveness, greater employment pressure and other problems, which seriously affect their mental health. However,at present, most researchers have paid more attention on the research of psychological development of ordinary college students, but there are few related researches that take higher vocational students as research objects. Therefore, understanding and mastering the mental health status of higher vocational students and exploring the factors that affect their mental health are of great significance for guiding the mental health education of higher vocational students and improving the quality of higher vocational education. On the basis of literature analysis,934 higher vocational students were surveyed by means of measurement tools such as <family parenting style questionnaire>,<mental health scale>,<self-esteem scale> and <subjective socioeconomic status questionnaire>.Through techniques such as difference significance test, correlation analysis, regression analysis and intermediary effect test, the status of mental health of vocational college students was discussed, the impact of subjective social status on their mental health was revealed, and the ways in which self-esteem and family parenting style played in effect. The study reached the following conclusions:(1)The overall mental health of higher vocational students is in good condition, but 1.8% and 5.99% of them have severe depression and anxiety. There are no significant differences in gender and urban-rural sources for all dimensions of mental health of vocational college students. In each dimension,self-affirmation is significantly different in living condition, whether it is an only child and grade;depression is significantly different in whether it is an only child and living condition;and the overall level of mental health is significantly different in living condition.Among them, the self-affirmation and depression of the only students are significantly higher than those of the non-only students;the self-affirmation of the third grade is better than that of the first and second grade, while the self-affirmation of the first grade is better than that of the second grade;the overall level of self-affirmation and mental health of vocational students who live with their parents to work in cities is significantly lower than that of those who have been living in the countryside with their parents and those who have been living in the city all the time;the self-esteem of the vocational college students whose parents work in the city and stay in their hometown with their grandparents is significantly lower than that of the vocational college students who have been living in the city;the self-affirmation of vocational students living in rural areas with their parents is significantly lower than that of vocational students who have been living in the city, but their depression is obviously lower than the higher vocational students who live with their parents working in the city and those whose parents work in the city and live in their hometown with their grandparents.(2)The subjective social status of higher vocational students is above average, and there are significant differences in their living conditions.Among them, the subjective social status of the vocational college students whose parents work in the city and stay in their hometown with their grandparents is significantly lower than that of the vocational college students who live in the countryside together with their parents, students who have been living in the city and students who live in the city with their parents working in the city.(3)The self-esteem level of vocational students is above average, and there are significant differences in their living conditions.Higher vocational students with their parents working in cities have lower self-esteem levels than their parents working in cities.Higher vocational students who stay with their grandparents in their hometown and higher vocational students who have been living in cities have lower self-esteem levels than higher vocational students who have been living in cities. There is no significant difference in self-esteem between sex, grade, place of origin, and whether single child.(4)In the family parenting style of higher vocational students, the father's refusal is greater than the mother's refusal, the father's emotional warmth is less than the mother's emotional warmth, and the father's excessive protection is less than the mother's excessive protection.Among the dimensions of family parenting style of higher vocational students, the difference of father/mother's emotional warmth in gender is significant, the difference of father/mother's excessive protection in grade is significant, and the difference of father/mother's refusal in grade and living condition is significant.(5)Mental health, subjective social status,self-esteem and family parenting style have a certain degree of correlation with each other.Among them, the subjective socioeconomic status is significantly positively correlated with self-esteem,and is significantly positively correlated with mental health;self-esteem and mental health are significantly positive correlation, and is significantly positively/negatively correlated with each dimension of family parenting style;each dimension of family parenting style is positively/negatively correlated with mental health.Subjective social status and self-esteem level have a positive predictive effect on mental health, and self-esteem plays a regulatory role between subjective socioeconomic status and mental health. In the aspect of family parenting, the four dimensions of emotional warmth of father/mother and excessive protection of father/mother play a regulatory role between subjective socioeconomic status and mental health.Based on the conclusion of this study, several suggestions for the mental health education of vocational students are put forward.
