Mr.Chen Dengyuan(1900-1975)is a well-known historian from Yuyao,Zhejiang Province.His representative works include“Old History of the National History”,“History of Chinese Culture”,“History of Chinese Feudal Land Tax” and so on.Mr.Chen Dengyuan graduated from Nanjing Southeast China University and has taught at Southeast University Affiliated High School and Ningbo Girls' High School.He has many years of experience in middle school history teaching.In 1928,Mr.Chen Dengyuan was hired as the editor of the World Book Office and published the National History of Chen's High School in1933.The writing of “Chen's High School History” was influenced by the historiography of the Xueheng School.Specifically,it is manifested in three aspects: first,the use of critical and empirical methods;second,the scope of historiography research is more extensive than traditional historiography;third,the purpose of studying history is to explore the laws of social development.At the same time,the foundation of the “Chen's High School National History”is also inseparable from Mr.Chen Dengyuan's previous historicalresearch results.Mr.Chendengyuan's book “The History of Chinese Culture”,“Tang People's Story Poetry”and several published academic papers.Both have had a major impact on the completion of the book“Chen's High School National History.”In addition,the upsurge of self-editing history textbooks during the Republic of China was also an objective factor and external motivation for the writing of Chen's High School History.“Chen's High School History” shows the following characteristics in the structure:First,the design of the textbook cover is simple and generous,second,the text layout is easy to read,third,the writing style of the chapter is used,and the fourth is to divide Chinese history into five periods.In terms of content,“Chen's High School History”contains important historical facts from the primitive society to the period of Republic of China.There are 36 chapters and 208 sections.Each section has a number of sub-heads,and through catalogue,Charts,notes,etc.to enhance the readability of the textbook.“Chen's High School History”is a relatively influential history textbook during the Republic of China.It has the following five advantages: first,it is appropriate to drawmaterials and put forward the “four inventions”for the first time;the second is to pay attention to the year,the timing clues are clear;third,front-and-back hook,the knowledge points are responsive to each other;fourth,the language is vivid,poetry and dual is flexible used;fifth,it can stimulate emotions and cultivate territorial consciousness.However,“Chen's High School History”also has some shortcomings:one is that there are too many references to classical Chinese,the other is that the distribution of the charts in the upper and lower volumes is unbalanced,the third is that there are a few typos,and the fourth is the use of national nicknames.In view of these characteristics,advantages and disadvantages of“Chen's High School History”,we must carry forward its advantages and avoid its shortcomings in the preparation of contemporary history textbooks.Frist,we should further emphasize the vividness of the language of the textbook;second,we must have a original view in the drawing materials for our history textbook;third we should strengthen the penetration of the feelings of the country;fourth,we should try to build a sense of time during high school students.
