In 2018,the Ministry of Education in China published the High School Geography Curriculum Standards(2017 Version),and since when the new curriculum system has come to the attentions of educators and the public.In recent years,with the further establishment of the new curriculum system,China's basic education field has also ushered in great changes in the curriculum,teaching environment and examination system.It is the only route for China's educational reform to refer to international advanced experience to be in line with international standards.As a western developed country,Ireland is famous for its education system,the curriculum design and practical experience of which is worth our study.Starting from four aspects including high school geography curriculum settings,curriculum standards,structures of teaching materials and contents of teaching materials of Ireland and China,this paper firstly compares the geography curriculum settings of these two countries,secondly compares the structures,concepts and objectives of geography curriculum standards as well as corresponding contents and evaluations,thirdly conducts comparative study on the arrangement structures of teaching materials,text structures,column structures,superficial system(text,image and activity system)and in-depth system(knowledge,intelligence,ideological education system)involved in the contents of geography teaching materials.According to the analysis result,the high school geography curriculum of Ireland has the following characteristics: It is more flexible and diverse in terms of geography curriculum setting;it pays more attention to the evaluation of geography practice and survey in terms of geography curriculum standards;The characteristics presented from the Landscapes teaching material: the arrangement structure is more systematic,the supporting text materials are more diverse,the image variety and activity quantity are more abundant.Based on the above characteristics and combined with the actual situation of high school geography curriculum in our country,the author proposes some constructive suggestions from the aspects of curriculum setting,implementation of curriculum standards,teaching work of teachers and optimization of teaching materials: From the perspective of curriculum setting,endow the schools with certain authority of arranging class hours independently;from the perspective of implementation of curriculum standards,the school and teachers should pay attention to evaluating the students' experiential learning goals and investigating their geography practice ability;the teachers should introduce the internal knowledge structure of new teaching material to students first,and then explain the knowledge of geography to them combined with schematic diagram,flow diagram and landscape map so as to help them establish complete geographical knowledge system,meanwhile,they should pay focus on cultivating the students to establish correct man-earth concept.From the perspective of optimization of teaching materials,add related information of picture source,introduction for use and vocabulary index as well as supporting materials,image form,quantity of activity and problem.
