Making reasonable Suggestions and taking them in time is an important ability for personal survival and development.Past studies mainly focused on how advices can be taken between an advisor and advisee, little is known about how the advisees' bad outcomes following advice-taking consequences for the advisors and advisees. In fact, despite people enjoy giving advice, giving advice also leads to another's personal failure. The present study intended to investigate whether and how social statuses of the advisors modulate their guilt and subsequent prosocial behaviors when their wrong advice causes a confederate's economic loss. This research set up two experiments to explore the above problems.Firstly, the individual's professional social status(high and low)is manipulated through point estimation tasks, and then the subjects are allowed to play the role of advisors and complete the Advisor-Advisee Game, thereby inducing and measuring the guilt feelings of the subjects under the situation that their own wrong advice causes others to lose money. Finally, the subjects were asked whether they were willing to give part of their money to compensate the decision makers and whether they were willing to apologize to the subjects in the experiment, that is,to represent pro-social behaviors through two indicators of money compensation and apology behavior. The results Experiment of 1 were as follows:(1)When the advisor's wrong advice leads to the advice follower's money loss compared with high-status participants,low-status participants showed a higher level of guilt and prosocial behaviors;(2).the negative effects of the advisor' social status on prosocial behaviors towards the advisee were fully mediated by the guilty feeling.Experiment 2 also demonstrated that the advisor' social status decreased level of guilt and prosocial behaviors. However, the negative effects of thein Experiment 2.In conclusion, for first time, the present study manipulated the advisor's social status to test negative effects of status on guilt emotional responses and prosocial behavior toward the advisees.,and extended previous studies by providing further evidence that When the advisor's wrong advice leads to the advice follower's money loss, compared with high-status participants,low-status participants showed a higher level of guilt and prosocial behaviors, and the negative effects of the advisor' social status on prosocial behaviors towards the advisee were mediated by the guilty feeling.
