As an important part of employment,vocational planning ability is quite crucial for middle school students to enter job markets and improve their competence in job hunting.However,the studies about vocational education in China are not sufficient and systematic,which impedes the development of students’ vocational planning ability.In order to get a better understanding of the current situation of students’ vocational planning ability in rural junior middle school,400 students in H Middle School in Guizhou Province are investigated through questionnaires and the results are collected and analyzed by SPSS.The results show: firstly,most of the middle school students do not have explicit plans for their careers;secondly,they cannot recognize themselves clearly;thirdly,they get vocational knowledge mainly from parents and teachers;and fourthly,they possess few vocational skills.According to questionnaires,students’ vocational planning is affected by their genders,grades,scores,family income and parents’ educational background.Their weakness in careerplanning is closely related to their own conditions and the environment,including family,school and society,they live in.In reality,middle school students in rural areas cannot evaluate themselves and careers sufficiently and objectively.Meanwhile,they cannot acquire information and skills about vocational planning from their family and school because of the poor educational background of parents,lower income of family and absence of school vocational education.Except for questionnaires,interviews towards parents and teachers are also conducted,aiming at collecting data to analyze the difficulties in students’ vocational planning as well as the causes of them.And finally,three instructional strategies are put forward based on analysis of the data and reality.Fifst,Students should enhance their understanding about themselves and vocational planning by all means.Secnod,Vocational education should be enrolled into school education.The third,Parents should communicate with their kids regularly and support their careers.
