Research On The Social Service Of University Of Nanking In The Period Of The Republic Of China

Social service is recognized as the third function of modern universities.In addition to training talents and developing knowledge,the social service function of universities is more and more valued.During the period of the Republic of China,the current situation was turbulent and the society was weak.Universities carried out social services with the aim of saving the nation and the people.University of Nanking was one of the typical representatives.On the basis of collecting and sorting out sufficient historical facts,this study seeks to combine horizontal analysis with vertical analysis,macro-and micro-analysis,and comprehensively and thoroughly analyze and explore the social service practice of University of Nanking in the Republic of China,and draw inspiration and reference.In 1928,University of Nanking formally completed the filing of the case and implemented the localization reform.Chen Yuguang,then president of University of Nanking,implemented the "three-one system",combined social service with teaching and scientific research,established a sound social service operation system and carried out a lot of practice.During the period of the Republic of China,the Agricultural College of University of Nanking implemented large-scale agricultural extension,disseminated agricultural knowledge and technology in the countryside,and carried out agricultural investigation and application research;the College of Science assisted the development of basic science education in China at that time,provided technical consultation and services for all sectors of society,and vigorously promoted audio-visual education;the College of Literature established the Wool Weaving Laboratory.And rickshaw cooperatives have conducted many large-scale social surveys and studies,and carried out knowledge services and social education.The different social service practices of the three academies had a positive impact on Nanjing and even the whole country at that time.The social service practice of University of Nanking in the period of the Republic of China has its own characteristics,fully embodies its university spirit and school-running concept,always focuses on the needs of the people and social reality,which runs through strong humanistic care.With the development of society,the degree of specialization of social service is also deepening,and established a very wide range of cooperative relations with all sectors of society.The practice of social service helped University of Nanking complete the localization transformation in the Republic of China,improved the quality of personnel training and the level of discipline development,and effectively promoted the development of many undertakings in the region.Its social service practice also has some limitations and shortcomings.Firstly,as a missionary university,University of Nanking 's social service has unchangeable religious attributes and color;secondly,there are some problems in the organization and implementation of University of Nanking 's social service;lastly,social unrest,backward economic development,lower overall cultural level of the people,and more decadent and outdated social atmosphere hindered the implementation of social services in University of Nanking.Therefore,the essence of this article is to explore its reference function in organizational system,form and content.The social service practice of University of Nanking during the Republic of China has important practical significance.First of all,it can arouse the university's attention and Reflection on social service and provide valuable experience for its implementation.Secondly,limitations and shortcomings can also provide a lesson for today's universities.Universities should correctly understand the relationship between social services and teaching and scientific research.At the same time,it should establish a perfect operation system to ensure the smooth progress of social services.Universities should also strengthen cooperation with all sectors of society to form positive interaction.Finally,universities should constantly exploring and innovating the forms of social services so as to make the practice of social services more prominent.Show the characteristics of the school,and adapt to local needs,with the continuous progress of the times.
