In the era of digitalization and globalization,schools need to develop the ability of students to live with the people of the world more than ever before.In response to the new challenges,Australia issued the Melbourne Declaration in 2008 on the development of education for the next decade,incorporating intercultural understanding into the new curriculum framework,and it has been fully implemented since 2013.In recent years,a three-dimensional curriculum system for intercultural understanding with multi-disciplinary penetration and profound content has been formed.Many regions in China have been exploring the integration of intercultural understanding into subject teaching.Based on this background,this paper explores the question: How does Australia integrate intercultural understanding into the subject teaching? What references can the related practices provide for the development of this field in China?Based on the practices of integrating intercultural understanding into subject teaching in Australia,this study takes the history in secondary education for example,and analyzes the basic characteristics of Australian intercultural understanding in subject teaching from the two perspectives of designed curriculum and realized curriculum.At the design level,the paper studies the top-level design of integrating intercultural understanding into subject teaching through content analysis of the 2018 Australian history curriculum syllabus;At the implementation level,the paper conducts content analysis on history teaching resources,teaching design,student assessment homework,and some interviews of students as support to study the practices of integrating intercultural understanding into subject teaching.The study found that the Australian intercultural understanding curriculum is in line with the national Asian strategy,and the teaching evaluations are consistent;the teaching contents highlight the interculture connections and discipline characteristics;the stageobjectives follow the overall planning;the teaching implementation emphasizes according to the materials and depth learning;and teaching evaluation methods are diverse,mainly based on qualitative.Based on this,the author proposes relevant suggestions for integrating intercultural understanding into Chinese subject teaching from four aspects: awareness raising,curriculum planning,goal system construction and teacher guidance of intercultural understanding.The research contents of each part of this paper are as follows:First chapter summarizes the research origin and significance of this paper,combing the concepts of interculture understanding.And based on the relevant research of domestic and foreign scholars about interculture understanding,including its basic concepts,etc.,and further points out the research content,research ideas and research methods of this paper.The second chapter introduces the history,course overview,project support and monitoring report of Australia's interculture understanding.The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of Australian intercultural understanding integrated into discipline teaching from the design level,mainly including the teaching contents emphasizing cultural connection and paying attention to Asian learning,the element connotation emphasizing cultural exploration and cultural identity,the teaching implementation focusing on identification of the past and so on,and the evaluation focusing on multiple evaluation.The fourth chapter analyzes the characteristics of Australian intercultural understanding integrated into subject teaching from the perspective of implementation,mainly including the flexible and diversified teaching contents,the element connotation focusing on understanding culture and cultivating cultural respect,the teaching implementation paying attention to in-depth intercultural inquiry activities,the teaching evaluation being compatible with the activity mode,and using thequalitative evaluation.The fifth chapter summarizes the relevant experience of Australian intercultural understanding into the discipline,and forms some enlightenment on how to integrate the intercultural understanding into the subject teaching in China.
