As an important part of lifelong education system,community education provides educational resources for community residents,and it is an important place for the elderly to learn.On the whole,gender imbalance in community education is a common phenomenon,and the participation rate of older men is much lower than that of older women.Most of the studies on barriers to participation at home and abroad focus on the participants,pay less attention to the non-participants,and lack of in-depth qualitative research.Therefore,it is particularly important to study the barriers to participation in community education for male elders.This study focuses on elderly males who are not involved in community education,taking the interview method as the main research method and combing the observation method.Through interviews with 30 elderly males,this paper aims at exploring and explaining the types of community education participating barriers of male elders,analyzing the relationship among micro-system barriers,meso-system barriers and macro-system barriers,and then putting forward corresponding solutions.The first chapter is the introduction,explaining the research background,clarifying the research issues and significance;Chapter Two is the literature review and research design,defining the core concepts of male elders,community education,community education participation barriers.Based on the social ecosystem theory,the barriers to participation of male elders are divided into micro-system barriers,mesosystem barriers and macro-system barriers.Chapter Three analyses the micro-system barriers from three aspects: physiological function,personality psychology and cognitive attitude.Chapter Four analyses the barriers of participation from family and work,peer group and community neighborhoods.Chapter Five analyses the barriers of participation from community education institutions and gender cultural concepts.Chapter Six analyses the interaction between the barrier systems.Chapter Seven focuses on the solution of barriers to participation,and puts forward solutions from the micro-level of individuals,the middle-level of groups and the macro-level of society.Chapter Eight is about summary and reflection.It discusses the findings of this study combining with the existing research,reflecting on the research and putting forward the direction of future research.
