Separation Or Integration:Spatial Production Of Transnational Immigrants In The Context Of Globalization

With the improvement of China's international image and the strengthening of its economic strength,more and more foreigners have come to China to study,work and even settle down.Pursuing the "Chinese Dream" in China has become a new trend of international immigration.As an important part of our country's immigration,transnational immigrants in China urgently need to paid attention to and studied.In the process of making a living in a foreign land,transnational immigrants should not only construct a cultural living area that is self-separated,but also constantly adapt to the culture of new environment.At present,there are many studies about transnational immigrants,but there are few researches on the space of transnational immigration.The spatial production of this group is actually a key issue in the study of transnational immigration,and it has very important research significance.As a typical area of China's reform and opening up and a strategic fulcrum city in the process of building “the Belt and Road”,Yiwu has attracted many foreign businessmen from all over the world to seek business opportunities and play an important role in the global market.Based on this,this study takes Yiwu as the research filed,using qualitative research method to investigate the spatial production process of transnational immigrants in Yiwu.It attempts to reveal the logic behind its spatial production,and then discuss the spatial production of transnational immigrants in the framework of Western space production theory to supplement the empirical research of the theory.This study has four main findings as follows: First,an important feature of Yiwu transnational immigration space is spatial integration.Although transnational immigrants have formed ethnic communities in the local area,they are not isolated from Chinese residents in their living space,but are “mixed” with Chinese residents.It presents the characteristics of “large mixed living and small settlements”.Second,the market is the core of Yiwu transnational immigration production,which not only affects the economic space production of transnational immigrants,but also affects their living patterns and living spaces.They carry out economic and trade activities and living activities around the market.Third,Muslims from different countries or regions have made connections through religion,constructed a religious life landscape with Yiwu characteristics,and produced transnational religious spaces.At the same time,transnational immigrants actively participated in the local government under the guidance of the government and grassroots communities.The localized cultural space was produced.Fourth,space of Yiwu transnational immigration is formed under the intertwined power,capital and technology in the context of globalization.
