Education is to awaken the soul with the consistent goal of developing talents.Currently with the development of higher education in China,it has been the fundamental issue that what kind of talents should be developed,how to develop them and what for to develop them.The orientation of education is about whether college students could be the competent contributors and successors to the socialist construction with Chinese characteristics,as well as the talents with all-round development.Aimed at the major task of morality and human development,colleges and universities have kept exploring the connotation and aim of talent education,showing complexity in concept,diversity in methodology and long-term effectiveness.Despite different emphases and effects,such education in China has generally neglected the focus on and consideration for mental growth of college students.As Albert Einstein put it,“the school should always have as its aim that the young man leave it as a harmonious personality,not as a specialist.” Mentality is the internal motivation for human development and exploitation,and pushed the development of sociality,and should therefore be highly emphasized in the talent education.Meanwhile the development of rationality as a result of mental growth has substantially promoted innovation in science and technology and academic progress.Therefore,mental growth of college students as the future of China and the major power of construction of moderate prosperous society in all aspects is now drawing attention and thinking from the public,as well as how such growth could meet the anticipation of society.Being the process of continuous mental enrichment,it is the precondition for socialization of college students.Mental growth enhances students’ mental outlook and perfects their mental world,guiding their daily behavior,as well as their outlook on world,life and value.Meanwhile reasonable talent education concept and system will further promote the rational and scientific talent education system in college,completing the great mission of talent development and scientific research.This paper centers on the talent education from the perspective of mental growth,and analyses the definition of talent education,mental development of current college students,implementation and exploitation of talent education in practice.It consists of introduction,basic theory of talent education,current situation of talent education and analysis of reasons,methods and measures of talent education and summary.With “Front Hookup” online broadcast by Ministry of Education and survey on students’ mentality in Wuhan University of Technology,this paper collects and analyses the related information,based on which it concludes the guiding principles and methods in practice for implementation of talent education in college from the perspective of mental growth.
