This study selected senior high school students as the research object,according to Eriksson’s theory of psycho-social development,senior high school students are in the process of shaping their self-character at this stage.As a high incidence group of mental health problems,senior high school students’ personality has not been completely shaped,s0 music can be used as a medium to assist senior high school students in shaping their personality.A clear understanding of the relationship between music preference and personality traits can improve the practical effect of music teaching.Based on the purpose and content of this paper,the author firstly integrates the relevant research materials about music preference and personality in both domestic and overseas,summarizes the research data,and bases on the author’s actual teaching,data were collected and analyzed through questionnaires.The questionnaire is based on Guo Na’s(2004)music aesthetic preference scale and Zou Hong’s(2003)revised five-factor questionnaire on middle school students’ personality.It has been properly concluded and integrated into three categories:popular music,Western classical music and Chinese traditional music.By comparing and analyzing the influence of both gender and grade on music preference,and the correlation between music preference and personality characteristics of Big Five personality traits,this paper draws a conclusion,and analyzes and summarizes the reasons.The results show that from the interaction between different vanables and music preferences,there is no correlation between gender and music preference,but there is obvious preference between age and music preference,especially in pop music,and the degree of preference of male students in grade two is the most significant.From the perspective of the interaction between music preference and personality,Extraversion has a correlation with pop music,Neuroticism has a correlation with westerm classical music,Agreeableness has a correlation with pop music and Chinese traditional music,and Openness has a correlation with pop music and Western classical music.Then the author analyzes the conclusion and attribution of the relationship between variables,and explains the space of the following research.It is expected that there will be more comprehensive and detailed research in the future,and to provide more valuable,scientific and effective research conclusions for the teaching work and related fields.
