An Ethical Study Of Tao Xingzhi's Thought Of "Real Man"

Tao Xingzhi is a great educator,democratic thinker and action theorist of the 20 th century in China.In the history of modern education in China,Tao Xingzhi's educational thought,especially his "real man" thought,has a lasting and far-reaching impact on future generations.Tao Xingzhi's "real person" thought is a systematic theory about ideal personality and its cultivation.Faced with the social situation in which "hypocrites" prevailed and the truth was inseparable at that time,he set up the ambition of "standing true and removing false" in order to transform the hypocritical society and realize the life ideal of strengthening the country and enriching the people.On the basis of penetrating ancient,modern,Chinese and Western use,he criticized and inherited Confucius and Mencius' thought of "gentleman",Zhuang Zi's "real man" thought,Wang Yangming's "knowledge and action" and so on.At the same time,he absorbed and reformed the western Christian "love as oneself" and Dewey's "learning from doing" pragmatism,and put forward the unique "real person" thought.Tao Xingzhi contrasted "real man" with "hypocrite" and "real villain",and expounded the foundation of real person,that is,to break down the view of fame and fortune and stick to sincerity;to compare "real person" with "man above man" and "man below man",he innovatively put forward the idea that "real man" is "man in man",that is,"true person" is the spirit of self-reliance,self-help and public service.The ideal personality of "man in man" in the spirit of volunteerism for the people;and in the educational practice of his whole life,he creatively put forward a new viewpoint of "action is the beginning of knowledge",pointed out the path of cultivating real people,that is,from "action" to "truth",advocated pursuing true knowledge in action and learning to be real people in action.Although Tao Xingzhi's "real man" thought has gone through more than half a century,many points,such as the concept of "breaking fame and fortune",the character of "man in man" and the spirit of "unity of action and knowledge",still have strong reality and pertinence,and are forward-looking and innovative towards the future.With the advent of market economy era,people's pursuit of material interests has also been released to the greatest extent.Utilitarianism and individualism are prevalent,and the value orientation is more materialistic,resulting in a series of problems such as hypocrisy and money worship.Therefore,in the process of socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics in the new era,re-examining Tao Xingzhi's "real man" thought from the perspective of ethics still has important reference significance for us to establish a correct concept of fame and wealth,cultivate a sound ideal personality,and focus on systematic practice.
