From the perspective of historical sociology, and according to the research method of Neo-Marxist Spatial theory, this paper investigates the pattern, spatial form, livelihood style, daily production and life changes of a Hui village in central Yunnan from the besginning of Ming Dynasty to the present,as well as its sense of locality and local significance. This paper describes and analyses the process of village space change in the whole historical process, explores the operation and logic of action subjects in different historical periods, and reveals how the village space changes from traditional symbolic space to modern instrumental space, and the impact of this change on the sense of place for rural communities.First,This paper presents and restores the spatial pattern and spatial form of the traditional village in Long along the chronological timeline. The traditional village community of Long is a symbolic space that is holistic,non-uniform,sacred and coordinated with each other;the village space is a daily space built by blood, geography and faith ties, which contains strong sense of place and local significance.Secondly, the process of village spatial change under the action of different action subjects in different historical periods has been described and analyzed. The discipline and influence of the space practice of the action subject on the people, things, production relations and daily life communication in the village space are also discussed. The results show that the village space changes according to the change of the target of the action subject. The Long village has experienced the change from the traditional village community to the modern social space, and the village space has undergone a transformation from symbolic to instrumental. And the blood, geography and faith ties have also been constructed. The daily space of the place is deconstructed, and the sense of place tends to fade. Finally, the choice of villagers' livelihoods under the influence of capital in different periods has been discussed, and the relationship between different livelihood methods and the spatial shape and spatial nature of villages, and the relationship between village space and locality under the means of livelihood has been analyzed.Under the traditional village space, the villagers rely on the natural space to make a preliminary transformation of the natural space to achieve the mutual cooperation of each space, paying attention to the integrity and symbolism of the village space.Under the leadership of capital and power, the transformation of villagers'livelihoods has made village space more and more an instrumental resource. The traditional natural space is dying, the village space is lost, and the locality is built by blood, geography and faith.Space transforms into an instrumental space that accommodates modern production relations. In the context of modern spatial production, the interaction of power, capital and locality has made the commercialization and benefit of Long space increasingly prominent.Under the combined effect, the village space has been continuously transformed, deconstructed and reshaped, and the sense of place and place meaning are gradually lost with the demise of natural space. While modern spatial production logic is shaping a fragmented,homogenized,non-sacred and alternative instrumental modern village space, the interaction between people and their living space is also changing.
