In recent years,due to the friendly development of Sino-Australian relations.To a large extent,the upsurge of learning and studying Chinese in Australia has been greatly promoted,so more scholars have also increased their attention to the development of Chinese in Australia.However,at this stage,the specific study of Chinese in the local is still relatively lacking.This paper makes a detailed survey and analysis on the primary Chinese teaching in Canberra,Australia.This paper first introduces the development of Chinese language teaching for secondary school students in Canberra,Australia.And finds that although Chinese language teaching has developed in Canberra for more than ten years,the overall Chinese teaching system is unsystematic.Only one full-time private school and two weekend community Chinese schools provide Chinese lessons for junior high students in Canberra.Then,this paper carries out a questionnaire for students and teachers in the.The questionnaire mainly includes:motivation and goal of Chinese learning,interests and difficulties in Chinese learning.The use of textbooks and ideal Chinese classroom composition and so on.Thirdly,this paper combines the analysis results of the survey with the author's practical teaching experience,summarizes the characteristics of secondary students' elementary Chinese teaching in five aspects.Finally,this paper puts forward some suggestions for improving the teaching of elementary Chinese in Canberra and sums up the whole paper.It is hoped that this paper can provide practical and effective reference for the development of Chinese language teaching in Australia and contribute to the overseas Chinese teaching and research.
