With the development of higher education, the problem of gender inequality in universities has become increasingly prominent which caused widespread attention.Taiwan has been at the forefront of the international in gender equality education, and its achievements have also been recognized by the world. This study uses the coefficient of discrimination and gender equality index to analyze the overall gender differences, the gender differences in different levels of education, and the gender differences in different disciplines in Taiwan's higher education. Then explores the trajectory of changes of gender differences in Taiwan's higher education enrollment opportunities since the 1950s.And it turns out,in the past 60 years, the difference of the chances of access to higher education in Taiwan has decreased, and the degree of gender equality has been greatly improved. Before the 1970s,the number of boys at the undergraduate level is more than girls, after the 1970s,the number of female students is less than the number of male students and male students gradually took advantage;the difference of the chances of access to Masters and Doctor programs has been decreasing, the dominant position of female students is no longer apparent in 2016.The gender differences in the three major disciplines have different degrees of reduction. In addition to the humanity disciplines, male and female students gradually approach equality in their access to social and technological disciplines.Although the gender differences in the Humanity and Science and technology disciplines in College and Bachelor programs are keep shrinking, the majorities are female students,it indicate that the phenomenon of "more female students distributing in humanity"still exists; The level of gender equality in Science and technology discipline has been increasing, indicating the phenomenon of "more male students distributing in Science and technology" has been greatly eased. In addition to the slight advantage of female students in the humanity discipline at Masters and Doctor programs, male and female students have equal access to other disciplines.Compared with Taiwan, there is still room for improvement in gender equality education in mainland China. On the basis of summarizing the achievements and experiences in Taiwan, this article puts forward some suggestions for the development of gender equality in higher education in mainland China.
