| Since the reform and opening,China has undergone profound economic changes. Its gross national product(GNP)and per capital income have been greatly increased, and its material living standards have also been greatly improved. When the basic material life is no longer the problem that troubles most people, the spiritual "happiness" problem has become the focus of attention. However,it is worrying that the well-being of Chinese residents does not seem to increase with the rapid economic development and the increase of national income,on the contrary, there is a downward trend, which is in sharp contrast to the material achievements of economic development. When the per capital income of a country or a region rises, the average well-being of residents does not rise at the same time. This phenomenon is called the "paradox of happiness".The paradox of happiness has aroused strong interest in the study of happiness in foreign economic circles, thus forming a new branch of Economicshappiness economics. In contrast, domestic economists have not done much research on residents ‘well-being.Under the above background, this study makes an empirical analysis of the factors affecting the level of happiness of Chinese residents, especially focusing on the impact of residents ‘income on happiness, trying to increase the theoretical basis for the study of the "paradox of happiness" in China, and expects that the results of the study can provide suggestions for the formulation of economic development policies and social public policies in China. Thus this paper clarifies the theoretical relationship between income and residents’ subjective well-being,finds the shortcomings of traditional happiness. On this basis, the relationship between absolute income and relative income and residents’ subjective happiness is empirically studied, and the following conclusions are drawn: 1.without considering relative income, the increase of absolute income has only a weak promotion effect on residents’ subjective well-being;2.without considering longitudinal relative income, the increase of absolute income is of great benefit to the improvement of the well-being.3.the effect of the increase of absolute income on residents’ happiness is far less than that of relative income;the increase of absolute income of low-income residents has a significant impact on their well-being.4.Men are not happier than women;Happiness decreases first and then increases slightly with age.rural residents are happier than urban residents;People who have married are much happier than all other levels; The happiness of party members in urban and rural areas is higher than that of the masses, and party members in rural feel happier;Residents with higher educationyears are higher than those with lower education levels, while those with lower education levels are generally higher than those with higher education levels;the frequency of religion can also improve the happiness of rural residents, the effect is more obvious; The increase of relative income has a more significant impact on urban residents.Through the above research,we can get some important enlightenment for the formulation of social and public policies on the premise of understanding the changing law of the residents’ happiness level in our country. |
