This thesis aims to clarify cultural tourism environment for British football industry and investigate the strategies that football industry need to adopt to promote the development of cultural tourism.Literature review on cultural tourism mainly discusses the concept and development of cultural tourism,the policy of cultural tourism,the role of cultural tourism in economy,and the relationship between cultural tourism and creative industry,which leads to the fact that as an important part of British sports and cultural creative industry,football industry plays a promoting role in cultural tourism.To some extent,football culture is a branch of the popular culture.By examining the traits of British football,the thesis states that it is the externalization of British culture.Based on the above mentioned facts,this thesis explores the advantages and strategies of British football industry in the development of cultural tourism,including to establish partnerships with other stakeholders that are engaged in cultural tourism such as football club,tourism agencies,local government,museums and so on.The above issues are further illustrated through case analysis.The case study mainly discusses both the opportunities and challenges that the city of Liverpool in England,which is the base of a famous Premier League football club and possesses rich tourism resources,faced in the process of developing football tourism,as well as its operating methods and mechanisms in dealing with various cultural tourism elements.It can be found that in order to seize the opportunity,the British football club relies on their rich football culture,utilizes the natural and cultural tourism resources of the city,and develops the inbound tourism market by establishing a cooperative partnership with a variety of stakeholders of the tourism industry.The active collaboration among the football industry,tourism agencies,government institutions,and related industries provides the prerequisite for realizing the potential of cultural tourism,meets its increasing market demand,and creates a new form of cultural tourism.
