In the era of knowledge economy, the economic competition between countries has gradually turned into competition for human capital and technological development. This paper studies the influence of human capital on the export product quality, which has practical significance for improving China’s export product quality. This paper reviews the concept of human capital and export product quality and their related literature, then constructs a comprehensive human capital index system, uses the entropy method to measure the human capital level of 55 countries from 2007 to 2015,and uses the inverse method to calculate the export product quality. This paper uses the cross-country panel data for empirical analysis. The main conclusions are as follows:First, the empirical analysis of the influence of human capital on export product quality in developed countries shows:(1)Based on the individual indicators of human capital,it finds that the quantity of education(HC1),Current health expenditure(%of GDP)(HC3),Individuals using the Internet(%of population)(HC5),Mobile cellular subscriptions(per hundred people)(HC6)and Researchers in R&D(per hundred people)(HC7)have a significant positive impact on export product quality. However, the quality of education(HC2),health indicators(HC4)and Research and development expenditure(%of GDP)(HC8)have no direct significant impact on export product quality.(2)Based on the composite index of human capital,it finds that the human capital composite index HCCI135673567 consisting of individual indicators such as HC1,HC3,HC5,HC6 and HC7 has a significant positive impact on export product quality. These results show that the improvement of human capital level can promote export product quality in developed countries.Second, the empirical analysis of the influence of human capital on export product quality in developing countries shows:(1)Based on the individual indicators of human capital,it finds that Individuals using the Internet(%of population)(HC5)and Researchers in R&D(per hundred people)(HC7)have a significant negative impact on export product quality. However, the quantity of education(HC1),the quality of education(HC2),Current health expenditure(%of GDP)(HC3),health indicators(HC4)and Research and development expenditure(%of GDP)(HC8)have no direct significant impact on export product quality.(2)Based on the composite index of human capital,it finds that the human capital composite index HCCI577 consisting of two individual indicators such as Individuals using the Internet(%of population)(HC5)and Researchers in R&D(per hundred people)(HC7)has a significant negative impact on export product quality. This also shows that the increase in human capital level is not conducive to upgrade export product quality in developing countries.the human capital of developing countries has been at a low level for a long time, and only when it is upgraded to a certain level can it be matched with the introduced new technologies, thereby improving export product quality. In addition, the improvement of human capital may directly promote the industrial transformation and upgrading in developing countries. For the improvement of export product quality,it will take some time to accumulate.Developing countries still need to work hard to improve human capital.(3)Among the control variables, foreign direct investment, per capita income, trade openness and market size all have significant effects on export product quality in developing countries. Some recommendations based on results:(1)Adhere to the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education, and consolidate the foundation of human capital;(2)Introduce high-end talents and draw on the experience of developed countries;(3)Train researchers and encourage technological innovation;(4)Create a good social environment to provide protection for the improvement of human capital.
