In recent years,the HPS teaching model was proposed by western educationists Meng Ke and Osborne.The new educational model,which is guided by constructivism theory,requires the history of science.The relevant contents of philosophy of science and sociology of science are integrated into the process of science education.This teaching model,which permeates the history of science and other related contents into science education,not only enriches the educational system of science education,but also promotes students’ understanding of the essence of science,and finally realizes the improvement of students’ scientific literacy.At present,the academic research on HPS teaching mode mainly focuses on two aspects: the concept and connotation of macroscopic level and the research of the combination of meso level and specific discipline.Lack of micro-level application of specific subjects in the specific content of relevant research.Chemistry,as an important part of science education in middle school,undertakes the important task of promoting students to understand the essence of science,to set up a correct view of nature and to improve students’ scientific literacy.Organic chemistry,as the key and difficult part of middle school chemistry curriculum,has the characteristics of many concepts and theories,many experimental methods and many kinds of substances.Therefore,the HPS education model is applied to the middle school organic chemistry education,and the effectiveness of the HPS teaching model in the middle school organic chemistry is explored through the actual investigation and statistics.The research includes two parts: teaching design and practical research.Teaching design: using the HPS teaching mode to design the teaching content of the organic part of high school chemistry,including the concept and principle,the research method and the organic compound,the content of the design includes threeaspects: the concept and the principle,the research method and the organic compound.Taking Organic structure,General steps for studying Organic matter and benzene as examples,respectively,the teaching design is carried out.Practical study: two equal classes in the second grade of Yanan Middle School in Yan’an City were chosen as the research objects,and the experimental class and the control class were studied by HPS and traditional teaching mode respectively,taking one semester as the research time.Finally,through the analysis of the two classes’ academic achievements and the results of the questionnaire,the author interprets the educational value of HPS in practice and explores its implementation strategies.The results show that the teaching mode of ":HPS" plays a positive role in improving students’ understanding of the nature of science,especially in the aspect of scientific methods,so that students can master more methods of scientific research and HPS teaching mode can improve students’ academic achievement.To promote students’ mastery of scientific knowledge HPS teaching model can be integrated with organic chemistry in middle schools,can expand students’ vision,improve students’ scientific literacy and understanding of the nature of science,and is a carrier to achieve the three-dimensional goal.
