A Research On The Images Of Gay Wives In Contemporary Gay Films

This paper carries out a research on the images of gay wives in Chinese and foreign gay films and further explores their social construction,so a s to overturn stereotypes of gay wives,strengthen the understanding of gay wives and effectively solve the realistic dilemmas of gay wives.It combines video text analysis with case analysis and selects classic gay films involving gay wives to specificall y analyze gay wife images,which enriches previous research methods based on virtual field investigation and research contents of gay wives.In the meantime,the paper analyzes the relation between body representation and cultural shaping of gay wives in gay films from the perspective of body sociology and feminism and points out that the plight of gay wives reflected by gay wife images is rooted in the influence of gender culture.The research shows that gay wives in gay films contain not only a single image.In this paper,the discussions on gay wives in gay films are carried out from three perspectives: body images,role playing and behavior performance.Firstly,there are various kinds of gay wives in terms of body representation,including beautiful ga y wives who save their marriage through female physical attractiveness,sexy gay wives who look for another lover becauese of her husband 's cold temperament and pool gay wives who have children for certain purposes.Secondly,gay wives tend to play multiple roles(mother,wife,etc.)in marriage while dysfunctional marriage keeps them from satisfying the role norms and therefore causes role play failures.Thirdly,behavioral choices of gay wives are characterized by stability and typification.Gay wives make great efforts to defend their marriage,accept the reality optimistically or reluctantly succumb to social or family pressure.To better accord with the reality,this paper traces the cultural origin of gay wives and explores cultural mechanisms behind the image shaping of gay wives in gay films.The case analysis suggests that gay wives in gay films are the results of the regulation and discipline by gender discourse.They are shaped to meet the needs of gender orders.Therefore,it is important to establish a gender culture of gender equality,mutual respect and harmonious coexistence on the premise of raising the subjectivity consciousness of gay wives,constructing female discourse and improving the social construction of gay wives,which is also the k ey to solve dilemmas of gay wives in real life.
