With the rapid development of online education and its wide application, instructional videos have gradually attracted the attention of researchers and practitioners.Previous studies have clarified that interactive videos have positive effects on learning satisfaction, cognitive load, and learning outcomes generated during the learning process. In addition, setting cue points on the interactive video progress bar has a guiding effect on the learner's learning, which can help the student to conduct rapid search learning, and has the possibility of improving the learning efficiency. However, the current research on the addition of cue points to the interactive video progress bar remains at the level of production and development, and only a small amount of research is directed at its application in teaching.Based on previous studies, this article comprehensively analyzes the types of cue points on the progress bar of mainstream video sites, and identifies four clue points, namely wireless cable points, blank cue points, word cue points, and continuous picture cue points. The following two studies were carried out:Study 1 selected 120 undergraduates from four different classes as subjects. In the multimedia classroom environment, participants were asked to watch videos of wireless cable videos, blank cue videos, word cue videos, and continuous screen cue videos, and use learning effect questionnaires, cognitive load questionnaires, and learning satisfaction questionnaires to evaluate instructional videos with different types of cue points added to the progress bar influence learner learning effects, cognitive load, and video satisfaction. The results show that adding cue points to the progress bar of the video has a positive impact on learning effectiveness and learning satisfaction, but it also increases cognitive load during the learning process.Study 2 started from the perspective of big data.Through the analysis of the recorded data in the process of studying a learner watching videos, the behavior data generated by interactions between learners and different types of cue point videos are excavated, revealing the mediating role of behavioral events in different types of cue videos and learning effects. The results show that the learners interact with teaching video, the play events occur at the beginning of the video, the pause event in the video end position and the video content switching position was the most, the seek event in the video near the beginning and end of the position up,the jump in event and the jump out event were almost evenly distributed. In addition, through the mediating effect test,it can be concluded that the effect of the cue point on the learning effect can be direct,or it can be indirectly affected by the interaction between the learner and the teaching video(the pause event and the seek event play a role). This article is based on an interdisciplinary perspective of educational technology and psychology, and makes an empirical study of the use of cue points in the progress bar in teaching. The research conclusions enriched the theoretical research on teaching videos and provided some practical guidance for instructional video design.
