The Influence Of Social Media On College Students' Intimate Relationship:Media Use,Self-disclosure And Interpersonal Electronic Surveillance

Intimate relationship has important influence on college students'daily life.Good relationship promotes college students' physical and mental health,while quarrels and breakups often bring negative mentality and physiological damage.As social media develops,its impact on college students' intimate relationship has been expanding gradually.On the one hand,social media provides convenience to lovers'communication and breaks the limitation of time and space.On the other hand,social media occupies so much personal time and brings much threat and competition of love.As modern college students,how to use social media to increase and stabilize the degree of satisfaction and commitment in intimate relationship,unfold the positive influence of love to improve ourselves and reduce its negative effect are the problems we need to face.At present,researchers seldomly focus on the influence of social media on college students' intimate relationship.This research,which is based on media use,self-disclosure and interpersonal electronic surveillance,uses main questionnaire and auxiliary in-depth interview to discuss the influence of social media on intimate relationship.Interpersonal electronic surveillance has never been referred to in mainland scholars' studies.This paper introduces this key variable and provides future studies with theories and reference.This research investigated 539 college students through questionnaire.Regression analysis results indicate that there is no significant relation between the degree of social media use and intimate relationship,and the higher degree of love' s self-disclosure on social media is accompanied by the higher degree of satisfaction and commitment in intimate relationship.For those who have higher degrees of interpersonal electronic surveillance to their partners,they tend to have higher degrees of commitment in intimate relationship correspondingly,while the interpersonal electronic surveillance to potential alternatives has negative relationship with satisfaction and commitment in intimate relationship.Besides,how long lovers have been together and whether they are in the same city are also the important objective factors that make differences in intimate relationship's satisfaction and commitment.
