The achievements of British pedagogical sociologist Basil Bernstein in the sociology of education are being concerned and studied by more and more people.As a pedagogical sociologist,Bernstein's research on the sociology of education has developed a new method,starting with the family as the field and constructing the code theory.Then the concept of classification and framing is put forward in the school field to analyze the power distribution and social control principles which are hiding in social and educational field.Finally he developed a mature theory of pedagogic discourse.The theory is to demonstrate the production,distribution and reproduction process of knowledge through the analysis of the text of knowledge,so as to reveal how power distribute knowledge to different class groups and affect the formation of each of them through pedagogic device.In the process of his theory research,Bernstein's pedagogical sociology thoughts has absorbed many others' great thoughts,so his theory shows a characteristic of cross-discipline,cross-theory and interdisciplinarity.The theory of educational transmission is in the middle of his theory development,it was produced by the combination of code theory and the process of reproduction of school education.School education is the research field of the theory construction.Based on power and control,the theory of educational transmission analyzed the knowledge transmission process of school education by using the concepts of classification and framing.His analysis of curriculum,pedagogy and evaluation systems of school education showed how power and code control the teaching process and influence the acquisition of knowledge and notions of the students from different class groups so that the purpose of social control would be finally realized.The analysis process of educational transmission involves the classification of the curriculum,teaching methods and evaluation course.It reveals the reproduction of knowledge,and at the same time,it provides a new research method for the school curriculum,teaching methods and evaluation system,which made a great contribution to the research of school education.However,due to the particularity of the social background when the theory was developed,the researchers must give full consideration to its limitations so as to make their research more reasonable while apply it.
