Common Aspects Of Mencius,Xunzi’s View Of Human Nature And Education Thought

Human nature is one of the core issues of Chinese philosophy.In the academic hi story,the discussion about the different views of human nature of Mencius and Xunzi is full of them.However,the researchers paid more attention to the differences betwee n Mencius and Xunzi’s view of human nature,and rarely discussed the similarities bet-ween Mencius and Xunzi’s view of human nature.Both Mencius and Xunzi are the re presentatives of Confucianism.If they are completely opposite in the view of human n ature,their philosophy,politics and education will also be different.In fact,quite apar t from the "goodness" and "evil" incompatible,the surface by Mencius and Xunzi’s pr ofound analysis of human nature,we found that the human nature of Mencius and Xu nzi is actually the same than different,and is essentially the same,different performan ce forms.Xunzi once fierce criticism of Mencius’ s theory of good nature,however,we beli eve that Xunzi has a misunderstanding about Mencius’ s theory of good nature,the ro ot cause of the misunderstanding,is the "humanity" from Mencius and Xunzi has diff erent connotations.From the perspective of concept of history,this study explores the concept of human nature from the Shang dynasty to the Western Zhou dynasty and th e Spring and Autumn Period,to track the evolution of the Warring States in the late active stage,the thought of Confucius,Mencius,Xunzi,the use of the meaning of the word "humanity" has carried on the commands,the results show that the Mencius an d Xunzi’s differences of human nature,not because of the difference of ideological na ture,but because of who I am as time changes,the meaning of the word "humanity" a nd the connotation of the concept of human nature has changed.The basic common point of Mencius’ s view of human nature is that they all inherit the theory of human nature of Confucius and believe that people have basically the same attributes.The most important characteristic of human nature is its plasticity.Therefore,Mencius and Xunzi,like Confucius,thinks that through education or enlightenment,people can attain perfection.The state of "sent" and "not sent" in the doctrine of the mean,to some extent,can be seen as the foodhold of Mencius and Xunzi’s view of humanity.The later neo-confucianism of "the nature of destiny" and "the nature of temperament",to some extent,can be seen as a reconciliation of Mencius and Xunzi’s debate.Of course,it can be reconciled within the same theoretical system,which in itself indicates that there is no essential difference between Mencius and Xunzi’s view of human nature.
