Educational measurement and evaluation is an essential part in teaching activities. It can determine whether the teaching process can achieve the teaching objectives, which ensures the consistency of teaching process and objectives. However, there are many shortcomings in traditional teaching measurement and evaluation. It mostly adopts the "pen and paper test",very single in its form,as the termination test, and it often ranks "good and bad" after the results come out, rather than write an analysis. Thus,it can't provide teachers and students with meaningful feedback and diagnosis, making the evaluation lose its own meaning. The new curriculum's evaluation methods and reformation directions is "the implementation of diverse evaluation and the promotion of comprehensive development of students".In the current teaching of chemistry, the employment of performance evaluation allows a perfect combination of students' teaching evaluation and learning activities, where we evaluate students from different aspects according to their performance of solving chemical problems in the teaching context set for them, which motivates enthusiasm and initiative of students, and finally imposes its positive application value. In the study of this subject, teaching practice and research were carried out in two classes taught by the same chemistry teacher.According to the characteristics of the chemistry subject and learning goals and tasks of different parts, such as the "thinking and communication","learning and questioning" and "Science and exploration" in the textbook of Compulsory One,we've implemented the performance evaluation in the classes with an effective system of goals, tasks and tools of evaluation. At the same time,we handed out thequestionnaires about interests in chemistry, formed scales of students' practical and inquiry abilities, and interviewed students and teachers, analyzing and summarizing the role of performance evaluation in improving students' learning ability in chemistry teaching. In the end,the results of this study show that the performance evaluation applied to the teaching of chemistry carries out the purposes of diverse evaluation in the "new curriculum reform",which ensures a valid evaluation on the students' grasp of the chemical knowledge in the classroom teaching and efficiently helps with their all-round development in the class. It meets its evaluation methods and reformation directions and conforms to the features of chemistry. Not only does performance evaluation boost the development of teaching and learning, but it also facilitates students to cope with practical problems more easily and confidently. Therefore, the performance assessment in the teaching of chemistry is with the value for popularization. This paper consists of five parts:The first part expounds the basic problems, including the statement of these problems, and the research purposes, contents, methods and significance of the subject. The second part is about the literature review, which finally summarizes the present situation in research of the performance assessment, defines some releted concepts and expounds the theoretical basis and origin of the research. The third part probes into the application of the performance assessment in chemistry teaching. We pin down the performance tasks, design the evaluation tools, develop multiple evaluation methods, and get the feedback of evaluation results according to difference evaluation goals. The teaching design of performance evaluation in classroom is written down in the teaching process of "chemistry"(Compulsory One). The fourth part is the experimental inquiry. We had selected two classes taught by the same teacher to conduct a comparative experiment, that is,the performance assessment was adopted in the experimental class, while the control class employed the traditional methods to evaluate students. The experiment helps to explore the feasibility and advantages of the performance assessment through the students' interests in learning chemistry, the ability of experiment, cooperation and communication,as well as their self-learning consciousness. The fifth part is a summary of the paper, where we draw a conclusion of the research, point out the problems we encountered and shortcomings existing in the research process, and look forward to the future research direction...
