In order to strengthen the construction of P.E.teaching staff in new period,improve their professional qualities in junior high schools,it is really necessary to enhance the professional self development of P.E.teachers.This paper makes a study on the current status of the professional self development of P.E.teachers in Guangzhou ordinary junior middle schools by integrated application of literature,expert interviews,questionnaire survey,mathematical statistics and other research methods.The main conclusions are as follows:1.By use of Delphi method,an indicator system is constructed of the professional self development of P.E.teachers in junior high schools,which contains three first level indicators(professional sensibility,professional knowledge,professional skills),eleven second level indicators,sixteen third level indicators and fifty fourth level indicators.2.The survey shows that:(1)the current professional self development of P.E.teachers in Guangzhou as a whole is in an average level,with a certain gap away from the requirements of the new curriculum and the reform of P.E.teachers in new period;(2)the professional self development level of P.E.teachers in junior high schools varies with gender,age,teaching age,educational background,professional title and school level.3.The main factors which influence the professional self development of P.E.teachers in junior high schools contains: light subject consciousness,inadequate sports teaching experience and the lack of career self planning on the part of P.E.teachers in addition to their low social status and the neglect of the school leaders.4.Countermeasures and steps are proposed based on the analysis of the influencial factors on the professional self development of P.E.teachers in junior high schools.(1)Encourage P.E.teachers in junior high schools to establish professional self development goals,enhance their consciousness and ability of self professional planning,keep them in continuous self reflection and exploration,bring them to face job burnout so as to reduce the impact of negative feelings.(2)Encourage teachers to participate in further education which should be targeted,practical,innovative in contents and diversified in organizational forms.Encourage teachers to participate in the competitions of basic teaching skills,high-quality courses and to observe the courses of provincial and municipal excellent teachers and backbone teachers.(3)To actively promote the cultivation of college students majoring in physical education,and carry out an ideological educations for the newly recruited teachers so that they have a reasonable professional identity,and a strong will and faith to devote to the cause of education.(4)To establish a reasonable social expectations for teachers,eliminate subject prejudice,ensure the economic status of equal pay for equal work,and use effective incentive mechanism so as to improve PE teachers’ sense of achievement.
