A Study About Influence Factors On Research Outputs Of Science And Engineering Doctoral Students

As the development of science and technology and the sharply increment of the amount about talents,scientific and technological personals has become the targets all the countries eager to.Doctoral students,as the reserve of national scientific research talents,decide the development and competition of science and technology in the future.However,with ever-expanding of higher education,the quality of doctoral training is declining.As an indicator of the quality of doctoral training,doctoral research outputs can be quantified objectively,reflecting doctoral students' research capacity as well as the quality of doctoral training.So exploring the factors of doctoral students' research outputs will be a key point to improve the quality of doctoral education.According to the paper research,there are very few researches about doctoral research outputs.What's more,the researches usually discuss from the aspect of individual,tutor and organization,which are lack of appropriate theoretical foundations.In this study,I introduced the concept of organizational supports in business management theory by stud.ying the similarity between science and engineering doctoral research outputs and employee wages performance.I also built the theoretical framework and discussed the relationships among the organizational supports,research motivations and doctoral research outputs,using the middle one as the mediating variable.In this study,the science and engineering doctoral students of Nanjing University will be research subjects and I investigated 156 science and engineering PhD candidates.By distributing and collecting the questionnaires,I did the reliability and validity analysis firstly.Then I conducted the basic descriptive statistics analysis of science and engineering doctoral students' research achievements.What's more,I did the difference statistical analysis to scientific research achievements of different backgrounds' graduate students as well as the correlation analysis to influence factors of doctoral students' scientific research achievements.The last but not least,I analyzed the relationship between the factors and scientific research achievements and mediation effect of scientific research motivations by regression analysis.The conclusions of this paper are as follows:First,there are obvious differences about research achievements among the science and engineering doctoral students with different genders,grades,subjects,backgrounds and doctoral cases.Second,there are significant correlations between organizational supports and doctoralstudents' research motivations.Third,intrinsic motivation is significantly correlated with doctoral research outputs.Forth,organization of emotional supports,mentor'tool supports,mentor' emotional supports,classmates' tools supports,classmates'emotional supports and doctoral students' research outputs are significantly correlated.Fifth,research motivations play an intermediary role in the relationship between the organization supports and doctoral research outputs.Based on the conclusion,I discuss some points combined with the interview data and put forward the following several policy suggestions:First,we should build a good academic environment;Second,we should optimize the teachers troop;Third,we should establish and improve the incentive mechanism of doctoral students;Fourth,we should strengthen the doctoral academic training;Fifth,we should establish a strict selection and elimination mechanism about doctoral students.
