Analysis On The Advantages And Limitations Of Specialized IOs' Participation In The International Agenda

With the deepening of global interdependence,the role of international organizations in dealing with global issues cannot be ignored.Among various international organizations,the United Nations has been the best-known one in the aspect of intergovernmental international organizations.In 2015,the United Nations has launched the Transforming our World:The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.In general,all the organizations and agencies within the United Nations system should play a key role in the implementation of the agenda.The arrival of 2020 indicates that the first phase of achieving the agenda is coming to an end and a new stage is in front of us.As a sub-level organization in the United Nations system,the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute(UNICRI)is one of the six major UN research and training institutions.It is committed to achieving global social justice,peace and security and promoting international cooperation.Its work includes but is not limited to preventing,controlling crimes and promoting justice.The core issue of this thesis is to explore how UNICRI is involved in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,and discuss the advantages and dilemmas that UNICRI has encountered during its participation.The conclusion of this article is:along with the practice of driving the achievements of the agenda,the UNICRI has embraced the advantages of professional staff,well-matched approaches,and international platform.Despite those merits,however,it is still facing many issues such as imbalance of monetary funds,lack of information sharing among agencies,and the uncertainties of international community.The first chapter of the thesis,based on the literature review of international organizations,will illustrate the specialized IOs from the perspective of its participation in international agenda.The second chapter will give a detailed analysis of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,including its trajectory,impacts and initiative as well as an evaluation on the agenda's five-year progress(2015-2019).The third chapter will illustrate the statute and missions of UNICRI,its stance on the relevant goals and specific projects.The fourth chapter will further explore the advantages and difficulties that UNICRI has already encountered during the practice process in realizing the sustainable development goals.
