In the daily work of new recruits,no matter learning, various meetings, duty tasks and various physical activities will consume the cognitive resources and energy of new recruits. When the cognitive resources and energy of recruits are consumed too much, whether the recruits cannot better execute the plan and achieve the expected goals due to the consumption of cognitive resources and energy is a question that this study wants to explore. In this paper, two studies were conducted to investigate the effects of self-wastage on officers and soldiers’ executive planning and the role of self-control in planning intention. In the first study,a questionnaire was used to measure the recruits’ self-control ability and self-report planning intention. Results showed that there was a significant correlation between individuals’ self-control ability and their intention to plan, and the higher the self-control ability, the more willing they were to make plans. The second study used two experiments to study the effect of ego-depletion on the planning intention of recruits. In experiment 1,50 subjects were selected and the single-factor design was adopted. The independent variable was ego depletion(low depletion vs.high depletion),and the dependent variable was plan willing. The results showed that the high ego depletion group showed less willing of training program than the low ego depletion group. In experiment 2,80 subjects were selected, and a two-factor design of 2(groups: recruits vs.veterans)x 2(ego depletion: high depletion vs.low depletion)was adopted. The independent variable is group and ego depletion, and the dependent variable is plan intention. The results showed that recruits were more willing to make plans and less susceptible to ego depletion tasks than veterans. The above results show that ego depletion has an effect on the planning intention of recruits.Individuals with different self-control abilities have different degrees of influence on plan willing.High ego depletion has less planning intention than low ego depletion.Individuals with high self-control ability have stronger plan willing than those with low self-control ability. Moreover, recruits were more likely than veterans to make plans, indicating that recruits were more hopeful about the future. We should consciously guide recruits to learn to make plans for the future, and better cultivaterecruits to grow. This study supports the resource limitation theory of self-control.As planning is a cognitive process that takes up a large number of individual resources for the future, individuals’ cognitive resources are insufficient in the case of ego-depletion,resulting in their aversion to planning, thus reducing their willingness to make plans.
