"Agreement demolition"is the main way of demolition in some rural areas of our country. In principle, rural areas can carry out the demolition reasonably in this way. However, there is tension between system design and grass-roots practice. This is the case of L village in northern Jiangsu.Villagers'compensation for demolition and relocation as executors is far lower than the provisions of relevant laws, but they have not defended their own interests through traditional violence,large-scale resistance and extreme behavior.Instead, under the influence of a series of rational and planned strategies of the villagers'committee, they have experienced changes in attitudes and actions of"resistance","conflict","compromise"and"assistance".In the process of transformation, the situation of"manufacturing consent"has been formed. This is the contradiction of reality. In order to explain the contradiction in reality, this paper introduces the rational choice theory of Brewey's analysis of"manufacturing consent".Each stage of the case is governed by the rational choice and action of the subject and object of the agreement demolition, and the rational elements reflected in the actions of both villagers and village committees. The village committee achieves its goal by building rules and creating competition,i.e.creating "group pressure",manufacturing safety deficiencies, and manufacturing economic differences.Correspondingly, the villagers'psychological activities have changed, that is,to shake their will and avoid becoming rational choices of public criticism;to shake their emotions,to avoid the harm of survival and to maintain the order of life;to recognize changes,to accept secret economic interests,to help the villagers to persuade demolition and relocation, and to rationally adjust their behavior. This is the combination of practical problems and theories. In the process of concrete analysis, this paper finds that the theory of rational choice is rooted in the hypothesis of"economic man",which endogenously leads to the theory of rational choice based on the explanation of micro-interpersonal interaction, and then tries to explain the possible problems of social order, showing certain arbitrariness. In the process of interpersonal interaction,it neglects the change of the income of the actors at the micro level, while in the macro level,it neglects the influence of social culture, social psychology and regional characteristics, that is,the rational choice theory is"embedded"in the changing social environment. This is the discussion of the rational choice ftheory from static analysis to dynamic analysis in the process of case analysis. Finally, back to reality, how is"manufacturing consent" possible? The village committee rationally utilizes the historic"street bureaucrats" to create flexible strategies, competitive situations and response actions for the"needs" of demolition houses.Accordingly,in the forced environment created by the village committees, villagers play their personal rationality deeply influenced by the social, cultural and economic conditions to cope with the actions of the village committees and strive to enhance their own interests. Both sides take reciprocal actions as the premise, dynamically adjust their own behavior,in which the village committee occupies an active position. With the advancement of the demolition process, villagers are unable to resist the organized invasion because of lack of capital. Finally, they can only fall into the established track of"manufacturing"by the village committee. The end point of this track is"lost and recovered"in terms of the village democratic concept, losing compensation for demolition and relocation, and"entering into the city"."Manufacturing Consent"demonstrates its power and silence.
