The Uneven geographic development theory can fundamentally be seen as a product of reflection on the preference of time priority in social theory. The purpose is to deconstruct the inevitability, homogeneity and singularity of time with the contingency, diversity and openness of space. In this sense, the theory of uneven geographical development can be transformed into the classical propositions within Marxism, that is,a discussion about necessity and contingency, universality and particularity, generality and concreteness. It can be seen that Marx's historical materialism has not ignored the problem of the uneven geographical development, but has incorporated it into an overall analysis. In view of the fact that Marx's historical materialism finally matured in Grundrisse, the text became an important text for sorting out and reconstructing Marx's uneven geographical development thought. This paper is mainly related to the following three aspects:first, from the perspective of the history of Marx's thought development,it identifies the uneven geographical development thought in broad sense and narrow sense contained in Marx's broad-sense and narrow-sense historical materialism, and how to use the theoretical postscripts of Theses on Feuerbach,German Ideology and Communist Manifesto. Finally,it appears well-grounded in Grundrisse. In a word,Grundrisse contains the theoretical rudiment of Marx 's mature thought of the broad-sense uneven geographical development and the narrow-sense uneven geographical development. The former is a spatial expression of the diversity of historical development, while the latter is a profound analysis of the generating mechanism of the uneven geographical development peculiar to capitalism. In addition, since transforming the world is the theoretical purport of Marx's historical materialism, the uneven geographical development in broad sense and narrow sense also has an important dimension of Emancipatory politics. The second is to use the the theory of uneven geographical development contained in Grundrisse to examine the theory of uneven geographical development with Harvey as an example. The differences from the "meta-theory" and the different conceptions of future society reveal the fundamental problems existing in Harvey's theory of uneven geographical development, that is,fail to grasp the true connotation of Marx's historical materialism, and in response to Harvey's criticism on Marx's historical materialism.Thirdly, through Marx's thought of uneven geographical development,we can understand the transformation of principal contradictions in Chinese society in the new era. From the perspective of narrow-sense uneven geographical development, this paper reveals the heterogeneity of generating logic between the insufficient development of Chinese society in the new era and that of capitalist uneven geographical development;from the perspective a broad-sense uneven geographical development,it reveals the world historical implication of transformation of principal contradictions in Chinese society.Overall, the uneven geographical development provides not only an important window for us to understand Marx's historical materialism in depth, but also a significant perspective for us to examine socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
