| The Associations of Overseas Chinese,the Chinese School and the Chinese Language Press are the three pillars of the overseas Chinese community,but Associations of Overseas Chinese is the core and epitome of overseas Chinese community.At the same time,the development and evolution of the Associations of Overseas Chinese is synchronized with the changes of the overseas Chinese society.Before 1978,there were three main periods for the development of Associations of Overseas Chinese in Britain: There were Early Associations of Overseas Chinese with overseas Chinese seafarers or laborers as main members before the Second World War;During World War II,there were the main goal of anti-japanese Associations of Overseas Chinese;There were Associations of Overseas Chinese with catering practitioners as the main body from the postwar period to 1978.However,before 1978,the number of overseas Chinese in Britain was small,so the development of Associations of Overseas Chinese was slow.After 1978,with the British Nationality Act of 1948,and the reform and opening up policy in mainland China,the Chinese in Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan have moved to the United Kingdom as family immigrants,international students,investment immigrants and other new immigrants.In addition,a large number of Indo-Chinese refugees have travelled to the United Kingdom,and the number of overseas Chinese in the UK has increased significantly.As of 2010,there were about600,000 overseas Chinese in the UK.The overseas Chinese is the important foundation for the establishment and development of Associations of Overseas Chinese.The large increase in the number of overseas Chinese in Britain has prompted the emergence of all kinds of new associations,and significant changes have taken place in their organizational forms and functional models.In addition,the types of associations have become more diversified,and professional associations have risen abruptly,and a new type of association organization has emerged--Chinese community center.Associations of Overseas Chinese shows the development trend of scale,localization,transnationalization and specialization.The rapid development of Associations of Overseas Chinese in the UK has had a very positive impact on the coordination of the internal relations among overseas Chinese communities in the UK,promoting the better integration of overseas Chinese into the mainstream British society,and the exchanges and cooperation between China and Britain in economies and cultures. |
